Replacing the SCSI Cable in a System Without a RAID Controller or an Adaptec 2940UW SCSI Controller WARNING: Refer to the safety information in your system documentation before you begin working inside the chassis. To replace the SCSI cable in a system without a RAID controller or an Adaptec 2940UW SCSI controller, perform the following steps: 1. Disconnect the computer system and all external peripherals from their electrical outlets, and remove the cover. See your system documentation for more details.
11. Attach the end of the LVD SCSI cable to the integrated SCSI controller. NOTE: Only one end of the cable can connect to the controller; the other end of the cable has a terminator. 12. Attach the device connector that is closest to the terminator on the LVD SCSI cable to the CD-ROM drive. Make sure that you use the narrow-to-wide adapter already on the CD-ROM drive. 13. If you have a tape drive, attach it to the next connector on the LVD SCSI cable. 14.
5. Disconnect the Ultra/Wide SCSI cable from the integrated SCSI controller and from the CD-ROM drive and tape drive, if applicable, and then remove the Ultra/Wide SCSI cable from the system. 6. Remove all Ultra/Wide SCSI hard-disk drives from the system. See your system documentation for more details. 7. Disable termination on any of the Ultra/Wide SCSI hard-disk drives that you plan to reinstall in the system. See “Disabling Termination” later in this document for more details.
CAUTION: Make sure that the excess cable length is not near the hard-disk drives or microprocessor(s) and does not block the airflow around the hard-disk drives and microprocessor(s). 17. Attach the device connector that is closest to the terminator on the LVD SCSI cable to the CD-ROM drive. Make sure that you use the narrow-to-wide adapter already on the CD-ROM drive. 18.
