Reference Guide

1-4 Dell PowerEdge 2100 and 2200 LVD Hard-Disk Drive Installation
5. Disconnect the Ultra/Wide SCSI cable from the integrated SCSI controller and
from the CD-ROM drive and tape drive, if applicable, and then remove the
Ultra/Wide SCSI cable from the system.
6. Remove all Ultra/Wide SCSI hard-disk drives from the system.
See your system documentation for more details.
7. Disable termination on any of the Ultra/Wide SCSI hard-disk drives that you plan
to reinstall in the system.
See “Disabling Termination” later in this document for more details.
NOTE: Single-ended devices on the SCSI bus, such as Ultra/Wide devices, cause
the SCSI bus to run at the slower Ultra SCSI speeds instead of the faster LVD
SCSI speeds.
8. Make sure that all of the hard-disk drives on the SCSI bus have a unique SCSI ID
between 0 and 4; this includes LVD SCSI devices as well as Ultra/Wide SCSI
hard-disk drives.
9. Install all of the hard-disk drives that you want in the chassis.
See your system documentation for more details.
10. Reconnect the power cables to the SCSI devices that you disconnected earlier,
and connect power cables to any SCSI devices you added.
11. Choose the terminated LVD SCSI cable with three drive connectors from the
upgrade kit.
12. Attach the end of the LVD SCSI cable to the RAID controller or the Adaptec
2940UW SCSI controller.
NOTE: Only one end of the cable can connect to the controller; the other end of
the cable has a terminator.
13. Attach the device connector closest to the terminator on the LVD SCSI cable to a
SCSI hard-disk drive.
14. Use the remaining drive connectors on the LVD SCSI cable to attach the rest of
the SCSI hard-disk drives on the bus.
NOTE: You can attach LVD and Ultra/Wide SCSI hard-disk drives in any order on
the LVD cable as long as all Ultra/Wide SCSI devices have termination disabled
and all devices have a unique SCSI ID between 0 and 4.
15. Choose the terminated LVD SCSI cable with five drive connectors from the
upgrade kit.
16. Attach the end of the LVD SCSI cable to the integrated SCSI controller.
NOTE: Only one end of the cable can connect to the controller; the other end of
the cable has a terminator.
