3. Install the I/O connector cover.
After working inside your system
Prerequisites
Follow the safety guidelines listed in safety instructions section.
Steps
1. Install the sled in the enclosure.
2. Turn on the sled.
Recommended tools
You need the following tools to perform the removal and installation procedures:
Key to the bezel lock.
The key is needed only if your system includes a bezel.
Phillips #1 screwdriver
Phillips #2 screwdriver
Torx #T8 and #T10 screwdrivers
5 mm and 6 mm Hex nut drivers
Wrist grounding strap
Sled

Prerequisites
CAUTION:
Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only perform
troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or
telephone service and support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered by
your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that came with the product.
1. Follow the safety guidelines listed in the Safety instructions section.
2. Follow the procedure listed in the Before working inside your system section.
3. Turn off the sled using the operating system commands or the CMC, and ensure that the front panel indicator of the sled is
not lit.
Steps
1. Press the release button on the sled handle to unlock the sled handle.
2. Rotate the sled handle away from the sled to disengage the sled from the midplane connectors.
3. Slide the sled out of the enclosure.
CAUTION:
To protect the I/O connector pins, install the I/O connector cover every time a sled is removed
from the enclosure.
4. Install the I/O connector cover over the I/O connector.
CAUTION:
If you are permanently removing the sled, install a sled blank. Operating the system for extended
periods of time without a sled blank installed can cause the enclosure to overheat.
