Optical drive (optional)
Optical drives retrieve and store data on optical discs such as CD and DVD. Optical drives can be categorized into two basic
types: optical disc readers and optical disc writers.
Removing the optical drive
CAUTION:
Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only perform
troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or
telephone service and support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered by
your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that came with the product.
1. Follow the safety guidelines listed in the Safety instructions section.
2. Follow the procedure listed in the Before working inside your system section.
1. Slide the release latch in the direction of the arrow to release the ejector handle.
2. Hold the ejector handle and pull the optical drive out of the system.
3. To remove the optical drive from the optical drive carrier, pull the tab on the cable to disconnect the cable from the
connector on the optical drive .
4. Flex the left side wall of the optical drive carrier to release the optical drive from the carrier.
