PRÉCAUTION : consignes de sécurité Respectez les consignes de sécurité de ce guide pour assurer votre sécurité personnelle et pour contribuer à protéger le système et l'environnement de travail de dommages potentiels. PRÉCAUTION : une nouvelle pile mal installée risque d'exploser. Lors d'un remplacement, utilisez une pile de type identique ou d'un type équivalent recommandé par le fabricant. Voir “SÉCURITÉ : mise au rebut des piles”, page 10.
De plus, prenez connaissance des consignes de sécurité suivantes qui s'appliquent à votre cas : • Pour débrancher un câble, saisissez son connecteur ou sa boucle de serrage. Ne tirez pas sur le câble. Certains câbles sont munis d'un connecteur à pattes de verrouillage ; si vous déconnectez ce type de câble, appuyez sur les pattes de verrouillage avant de retirer le câble. Lorsque vous séparez des connecteurs, veillez à les maintenir alignés pour éviter de tordre leurs broches.
Présentation générale La gamme de contrôleurs Dell™ PERC (PowerEdge™ Expandable RAID Controller) 5 offre des fonctionnalités de contrôle des matrices RAID. Les contrôleurs RAID SAS (Serial-Attached SCSI) PERC 5 prennent en charge les périphériques SAS et les périphériques SATA homologués par Dell. Fiables et très performants, ces contrôleurs fournissent des fonctions de tolérance de pannes applicables à la gestion des sous-systèmes de disques.
Architecture PCI Les contrôleurs PERC 5 prennent en charge une interface hôte PCI-E x8. L'architecture PCI-E est une architecture de bus d'E/S haute performance conçue pour accroître les transferts de données sans que cela entraîne un ralentissement de l'unité centrale.
Récapitulatif des niveaux RAID Le niveau RAID 0 répartit les données sur plusieurs disques pour accélérer le débit disponible, notamment pour les fichiers de grande taille. Il s'utilise dans les environnements ne nécessitant pas de mise en redondance des données. Le niveau RAID 1 permet d'écrire les données simultanément sur deux disques physiques.
Mise en miroir des disques La mise en miroir (utilisée avec le niveau RAID 1) permet d'écrire les données simultanément sur deux disques. En cas de panne d'un disque, le contenu de l'autre disque reste accessible au système, ce qui permet de régénérer le disque défectueux. L'avantage principal de la mise en miroir des disques est la redondance totale des données. Si l'un des deux disques tombe en panne, son contenu reste accessible car il a été dupliqué sur l'autre disque.
Les données de parité sont réparties sur tous les disques physiques du système. Si un seul disque physique tombe en panne, il peut être régénéré à partir de la parité et des données stockées sur les disques physiques restants. Le niveau RAID 5 associe la parité distribuée et la répartition sur disques, comme indiqué Figure 1-3. La parité assure la redondance en cas de panne d'un disque physique, sans qu'il soit pour autant nécessaire de dupliquer le contenu des disques physiques dans leur intégralité.

Caractéristiques des contrôleurs PERC 5 Cette section décrit les caractéristiques de la gamme de contrôleurs Dell™ PERC 5 : options de configuration, performances des matrices de disques, spécifications matérielles, utilitaires de gestion RAID et pilotes des systèmes d'exploitation. Caractéristiques des contrôleurs PERC 5 Cette section décrit les caractéristiques matérielles des contrôleurs PERC 5. Le tableau 2-1 compare la configuration des différents contrôleurs existants. Tableau 2-1.

Compatibilité avec les disques virtuels créés sur des contrôleurs PERC 5 existants Les contrôleurs PERC 5 reconnaissent et utilisent les disques virtuels créés sur des contrôleurs PERC 5 existants. Il n'existe aucun risque particulier d'altération des données ni de perte des données, de la redondance ou de la configuration. De même, les disques virtuels créés sur ces contrôleurs peuvent être transférés sur d'autres contrôleurs PERC 5.
Fonctionnement des voyants Le voyant situé sur le support des disques physiques indique l'état de chaque disque physique. En ce qui concerne le stockage interne, reportez-vous à la documentation du système pour plus d'informations sur les schémas de clignotement. Pour plus d'informations sur le clignotement des voyants du système Dell PowerVault™ MD1000, consultez le document Dell PowerVault MD1000 Hardware Owner's Manual (Dell PowerVault MD1000 Manuel du propriétaire).
Pour utiliser la migration de disques, procédez comme suit : 1 Éteignez le système contenant le contrôleur source. 2 Déplacez les disques physiques appropriés entre le contrôleur source et le contrôleur cible. Il n'est pas nécessaire d'éteindre le système contenant le contrôleur cible avant d'y insérer les disques physiques. 3 L'application de gestion du stockage marque alors les disques insérés comme étant des disques étrangers.
Écriture différée et écriture immédiate Avec l'écriture immédiate, le contrôleur envoie un signal de fin de transfert au système hôte lorsque le sous-système de disques a reçu toutes les données impliquées dans une transaction. Le contrôleur écrit ensuite les données mises en mémoire cache sur le périphérique de stockage lorsque l'activité du système est faible, ou bien lorsque le tampon d'écriture arrive à saturation.
Durée d'un cycle d'apprentissage La durée d'un cycle d'apprentissage varie en fonction de la capacité de charge de la batterie et des courants de décharge/charge utilisés. Pour un contrôleur PERC 5, le cycle d'apprentissage dure environ sept heures et comprend les étapes suivantes : • Cycle de décharge : environ trois heures • Cycle de charge : environ quatre heures Les cycles d'apprentissage raccourcissent au fur et à mesure que la capacité de la batterie diminue dans le temps.
Caractéristiques de la tolérance de pannes Le tableau 2-3 répertorie les caractéristiques de tolérance de pannes qui permettent d'éviter la perte de données en cas d'incident affectant un disque physique. Tableau 2-3.
Fonction Patrol Read La fonction Patrol Read (cycle de lecture de surveillance) est conçue comme une mesure préventive ; elle inspecte le système afin de détecter d'éventuelles erreurs sur les disques physiques pouvant entraîner une panne et endommager l'intégrité des données. Elle permet ainsi de détecter les incidents liés aux disques physiques, voire de les résoudre, avant que le système hôte n'accède à ces derniers.
Modes de la fonction Patrol Read Les sections suivantes contiennent des informations relatives à la planification de la fonction Patrol Read : 1 Par défaut, le contrôleur définit la fonction Patrol Read sur le mode Auto. Vous pouvez activer les modes Auto ou Manual (Manuel). 2 En mode Auto, la fonction Patrol Read s'exécute en continu sur le système. Une fois l'exécution en cours terminée, le lancement suivant est planifié pour démarrer dans les sept jours.
Installation et configuration du matériel Ce chapitre contient les instructions d'installation des contrôleurs Dell™ PERC (PowerEdge™ Expandable RAID Controller) 5. Installation de l'adaptateur PERC 5/E PRÉCAUTION : seuls les techniciens de maintenance qualifiés sont habilités à retirer le capot du système pour accéder aux composants internes.

Installation de la TBBU pour le contrôleur PERC 5/E Cette section décrit l'installation de la TBBU (Transportable Battery Backup Unit, unité de batterie de sauvegarde transportable) sur le contrôleur PERC 5/E. PRÉCAUTION : seuls les techniciens de maintenance qualifiés sont habilités à retirer le capot du système pour accéder aux composants internes.

Installation d'une TBBU Batterie Module de mémoire Connecteur du module de mémoire Faisceau de fils du bloc batterie Connecteur de la batterie 4 Placez le contrôleur PERC 5/E sur une surface propre et stable sans électricité statique. 5 Montez le module de mémoire dans le logement correspondant de l'adaptateur, comme s'il s'agissait d'une barrette DIMM standard. Pour plus d'informations, voir “Installation de la barrette DIMM sur un adaptateur PERC 5/E”, page 30.
1 Retirez le module de mémoire dans un environnement antistatique. REMARQUE : lorsque vous sortez un composant sensible à l'électricité statique de son carton, ne le retirez de l'emballage antistatique que si vous êtes prêt à l'installer. Juste avant de retirer l'emballage antistatique, déchargez bien l'électricité statique accumulée dans votre organisme. REMARQUE : manipulez les composants sensibles dans une zone protégée contre l'électricité statique.
Transfert d'une TBBU entre deux contrôleurs Si une panne de courant se produit alors que des données se trouvent encore dans la mémoire cache, la TBBU peut continuer à alimenter le module de mémoire en électricité pendant une durée maximale de 72 heures. Si un contrôleur tombe en panne suite à une interruption de l'alimentation en électricité, vous pouvez déplacer la TBBU sur un nouveau contrôleur et récupérer les données. Ce nouveau contrôleur doit être dénué de toute configuration existante.
4 Retirez tous les éléments servant à fixer le contrôleur PERC 5/E dans le système (vis du support, par exemple), puis soulevez doucement le contrôleur pour l'extraire du logement PCI-E. Voir la figure 3-5. Figure 3-5.
2 Inspectez le contrôleur pour vérifier si le voyant de la barrette DIMM indiquant que la mémoire cache contient des fichiers en attente d'écriture (“dirty cache”) est allumé. Voir la figure 3-6. Si tel est le cas, réinsérez le contrôleur dans le système et remettez le capot en place. Rebranchez le système sur le secteur, allumez-le et recommencez l'étape 1. Figure 3-6.

5 Alignez l'adaptateur PERC 5/i avec le logement PCI-E choisi. 6 Insérez l'adaptateur dans le logement PCI-E jusqu'à ce qu'il soit correctement emboîté. Voir la figure 3-8. PRÉCAUTION : lorsque vous insérez le contrôleur dans le logement PCI-E, vous ne devez pas appuyer sur le module de mémoire. Vous risqueriez de le casser ou d'endommager le connecteur DIMM. PRÉCAUTION : les décharges électrostatiques peuvent endommager des composants sensibles.

Voir le document Hardware Owner's Manual (Manuel du propriétaire) pour obtenir les instructions relatives à la fermeture du capot. 10 Reconnectez le ou les cordons d'alimentation et câbles réseau, puis allumez le système.
3 Inspectez le contrôleur pour vérifier si le voyant indiquant que la mémoire cache contient des fichiers en attente d'écriture (“dirty cache”) est allumé. • Si tel est le cas, remettez le capot en place, rebranchez le système sur le secteur, allumez-le et recommencez la procédure décrite de l'étape 1 à l'étape 2. Voir la figure 3-10. REMARQUE : l'emplacement du contrôleur PERC 5/i varie d'un système à l'autre.

Retrait de la barrette DIMM d'une carte PERC 5/i Cette section indique comment retirer le module de mémoire d'un adaptateur PERC 5/i ou d'un contrôleur PERC 5/i intégré installé dans un système.
2 Pour retirer la barrette DIMM, appuyez sur les pattes situées de chaque côté du connecteur DIMM, puis soulevez la barrette pour la retirer du contrôleur. REMARQUE : l'emplacement du contrôleur PERC 5/i varie d'un système à l'autre. Consultez le document Hardware Owner's Manual (Manuel du propriétaire) fourni avec le système pour identifier cet emplacement.
Installation des pilotes Pour que les contrôleurs Dell™ PERC (PowerEdge™ Expandable RAID Controller) 5 puissent fonctionner avec les systèmes d'exploitation Microsoft® Windows®, Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® et SUSE® Linux, vous devez installer les pilotes logiciels appropriés.
Installation du pilote lors de l'installation d'un système d'exploitation Microsoft Procédez comme suit pour installer le pilote en même temps que le système d'exploitation : 1 Démarrez le système avec le CD de Microsoft Windows 2000/Windows XP/Microsoft Windows Server 2003. 2 Lorsque le message Appuyez sur F6 pour installer un pilote SCSI ou RAID tierce partie s'affiche, appuyez immédiatement sur .
6 Dans la fenêtre Trouver les fichiers pilotes, sélectionnez Rechercher un pilote approprié pour mon périphérique puis cliquez sur Suivant. 7 Insérez la disquette appropriée et sélectionnez Lecteurs de disquettes dans la fenêtre Trouver les fichiers pilotes. 8 Cliquez sur Suivant. 9 L'assistant détecte puis installe les pilotes appropriés pour le nouveau contrôleur RAID. 10 Cliquez sur Terminer. 11 Redémarrez le serveur.
Installation d'un nouveau contrôleur RAID pour Windows Vista Si vous ajoutez le contrôleur RAID à un système sur lequel Windows Vista est déjà installé, procédez comme suit pour configurer le pilote : 1 Insérez le DVD de Windows Vista dans le lecteur et redémarrez le système. 2 Sélectionnez les informations liées à votre situation géographique, telles que votre pays et votre langue. 3 Entrez la clé de produit Windows.
Installation du pilote pour Red Hat Enterprise Linux Pour installer le pilote approprié pour Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS et ES (versions 3 et 4), procédez comme suit. Ce pilote est fréquemment mis à jour. Pour vous assurer que vous disposez de la version la plus récente, téléchargez le pilote Red Hat Enterprise Linux à jour à partir du site support.dell.com.
Création d'une disquette de mise à jour des pilotes Procédez comme suit pour créer l'image de la disquette de mise à jour des pilotes à l'aide de l'outil DKMS : 1 Installez le module RPM du pilote megaraid_sas activé par DKMS sur un système Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
3 Installez le module du pilote à l'aide de la commande suivante : rpm -Uvh . 4 Redémarrez le système pour charger le nouveau pilote. Mise à niveau du noyau Si vous procédez à une mise à niveau du noyau à l'aide de l'utilitaire up2date, vous devez réinstaller les modules de pilotes activés par DKMS.
Fichiers et répertoires requis pour la création de la disquette de mise à jour des pilotes (DUD) Les fichiers indiqués ci-après sont requis pour la création de l'image de la disquette de mise à jour. REMARQUE : ces fichiers sont installés par le module du pilote megaraid_sas. À ce stade, vous n'avez aucune opération à effectuer. 1 Le répertoire /usr/src/megaraid_sas- contient le code source du pilote, dkms.conf, ainsi que le fichier de spécifications approprié.
5 À l'invite Please insert the driver update floppy/CDROM (Insérez la disquette ou le CD-ROM de mise à jour des pilotes), cliquez sur OK. Le système sélectionne le pilote enregistré sur la disquette puis l'installe. Le système affiche ensuite le message DRIVER UPDATE ADDED (Mise à jour du pilote ajoutée), ainsi que la description du pilote. 6 Cliquez sur OK.

Configuration et gestion RAID Les applications de gestion du stockage permettent de procéder à différentes opérations : gestion et configuration du système RAID, création et gestion des groupes de disques, contrôle et surveillance des systèmes RAID et maintenance en ligne.
Utilitaire de configuration du BIOS Également appelé “Ctrl-R”, l'utilitaire de configuration du BIOS est une application de gestion du stockage intégrée aux contrôleurs PERC 5. Il gère le système RAID et permet de configurer et de gérer les groupes de disques et les disques virtuels RAID. Cet utilitaire est indépendant du système d'exploitation. REMARQUE : l'utilitaire de configuration du BIOS doit être utilisé pour la configuration initiale, ainsi qu'en cas de récupération d'urgence.
Commandes de navigation dans les menus Le tableau 5-1 indique les touches à utiliser pour naviguer entre les différents écrans de l'utilitaire de configuration du BIOS. Tableau 5-1. Virtual Disk Management (VD Mgmt - Gestion des disques virtuels) L'écran VD Mgmt (Gestion des disques virtuels) est le premier qui s'affiche lorsque vous accédez à l'utilitaire de configuration du BIOS.

Voir “Gestion des disques de secours dédiés”, page 69 pour plus d'informations.

Création de disques virtuels REMARQUE : les contrôleurs PERC 5 ne prennent pas en charge la création d'un disque virtuel contenant à la fois des disques physiques SAS et SATA. Pour créer des disques virtuels, procédez comme suit : 1 Au démarrage du système hôte, appuyez sur lorsque la bannière du BIOS s'affiche. L'écran Virtual Disk Management (Gestion des disques virtuels) s'affiche.
13 Pour sélectionner les paramètres des disques virtuels, procédez comme suit : a Appuyez sur la pour placer le curseur sur les paramètres à modifier. b Appuyez sur la touche fléchée vers le bas pour développer chaque paramètre et faire défiler la liste d'options. c Pour changer la taille des éléments de bandes, appuyez sur la afin de mettre l'option Stripe Element Size (Taille des éléments de bandes) en surbrillance.
Initialisation des disques virtuels Pour initialiser des disques virtuels, procédez comme suit : 1 Dans l'écran VD Mgmt (Gestion des disques virtuels), sélectionnez Virtual Disk # (Numéro du disque virtuel) et appuyez sur pour afficher le menu des actions disponibles. 2 Sélectionnez Initialization (Initialisation) et appuyez sur la touche fléchée vers la droite pour afficher les options du sous-menu. 3 Sélectionnez Start Init.
3 Appuyez sur pour afficher les actions disponibles. 4 Appuyez sur la touche fléchée vers la droite pour afficher les actions disponibles, à savoir Import (Importer) et Clear (Effacer). Définition du comportement du voyant Le clignotement du voyant permet d'identifier les disques physiques utilisés pour créer un disque virtuel. Cette fonction peut être désactivée. Procédez comme suit : 1 Appuyez sur pour accéder à l'écran PD Mgmt (Gestion des disques physiques). La liste des disques physiques s'affiche. L'état de chaque disque s'affiche sous l'en-tête State (État). 2 Appuyez sur la touche fléchée vers le bas pour mettre un disque physique en surbrillance.
4 Pour supprimer un disque de secours dédié, appuyez sur la touche fléchée vers le bas pour le mettre en surbrillance, puis appuyez sur la barre d'espacement pour le désélectionner. Pour supprimer plusieurs disques de secours dédiés, recommencez cette opération autant de fois que nécessaire. 5 Appuyez sur pour valider les modifications. La liste des disques de secours actualisée s'affiche dans l'écran VD Mgmt (Gestion des disques virtuels), sous l'en-tête Hot spares (Disques de secours).
4 Appuyez sur la touche fléchée vers le bas pour sélectionner Remove HS (Supprimer un disque de secours) dans la liste des options, puis appuyez sur . Le disque physique passe à l'état Ready (Prêt), comme indiqué sous l'en-tête State (État). REMARQUE : il est préférable que les disques physiques formant un disque virtuel possèdent tous la même capacité. Dans le cas contraire, le système considère que tous les disques physiques possèdent la capacité du disque le plus petit.
Pour lancer un test de cohérence, procédez comme suit : 1 Appuyez sur pour accéder à l'écran VD Mgmt (Gestion des disques virtuels). 2 Appuyez sur la touche fléchée vers le bas pour mettre en surbrillance l'option Virtual Disk # (Numéro du disque virtuel). 3 Appuyez sur pour afficher les actions disponibles. 4 Appuyez sur la touche fléchée vers le bas pour sélectionner Consistency Check (Test de cohérence).

Pour supprimer des groupes de disques, effectuez les opérations suivantes dans l'utilitaire de configuration du BIOS. 1 Appuyez sur pour accéder à l'écran VD Mgmt (Gestion des disques virtuels). 2 Appuyez sur la pour placer le curseur sur un groupe de disques répertorié sous l'en-tête Virtual Disks (Disques virtuels). 3 Appuyez sur . Le menu répertoriant les actions disponibles s'affiche.
Après avoir activé le BIOS d'un contrôleur, procédez comme suit pour permettre au système de démarrer à partir de ce contrôleur. 1 Appuyez sur pour accéder à l'écran Ctrl Mgmt (Gestion des contrôleurs). 2 Appuyez sur la pour placer le curseur sur l'option Select Bootable VD (Sélectionner le disque virtuel pour l'amorçage) de l'encart Settings (Paramètres). Si plusieurs disques virtuels sont présents, des lignes grisées s'affichent.
Restauration des paramètres par défaut définis en usine Vous pouvez utiliser l'écran Ctrl Mgmt (Gestion des contrôleurs) pour restaurer les valeurs par défaut correspondant aux options de l'encart Settings (Paramètres). Les options disponibles sont Enable Controller BIOS (Activer le BIOS du contrôleur), Enable Alarm (Activer l'alarme) et Enable BIOS Stop on Error (Arrêter l'exécution du BIOS en cas d'erreur).

Disques virtuels dégradés Un disque virtuel redondant est dit “dégradé” lorsqu'un disque physique est en panne ou inaccessible. Par exemple, un disque virtuel RAID 1 comprenant deux disques physiques est dégradé si l'un de ces deux disques est en panne ou inaccessible.

Glossaire C A adaptateur Un adaptateur permet au système d'accéder à des périphériques en convertissant le protocole utilisé par un bus ou une interface vers un autre protocole. Il peut également avoir une utilité spécifique. Par exemple, un contrôleur RAID est un type d'adaptateur qui offre des fonctions RAID. Les adaptateurs peuvent être installés sur la carte système ou sur une carte d'extension. Il existe également des adaptateurs réseau et SCSI.
D DDR SDRAM Lorsqu'un disque physique tombe en panne, le micrologiciel du contrôleur régénère automatiquement les données correspondantes sur le disque de secours. Cette régénération ne peut être effectuée que pour les disques virtuels utilisant un niveau RAID redondant (1, 5, 10 ou 50, mais pas RAID 0). Si vous sélectionnez cette option dans l'utilitaire de configuration du BIOS, le contrôleur ne lit pas séquentiellement les données situées en amont des données faisant l'objet d'une requête de lecture.
micrologiciel mise en miroir Logiciel stocké dans la mémoire morte (ROM) ou la mémoire morte programmable (PROM). Le micrologiciel détermine souvent le comportement d'un système lors de son premier démarrage. Exemple : un programme de contrôle d'un système qui charge l'intégralité du système d'exploitation à partir du disque ou d'un réseau, puis passe le contrôle au système d'exploitation.
O parité distribuée Opération booléenne qui permet de créer un bit de parité pouvant servir à restaurer des données affectées par un fichier endommagé ou un disque physique défaillant. L'utilitaire de gestion compare les données provenant de deux disques physiques et crée un bit de parité qui est stocké sur un troisième disque physique. Cette opération est utilisée pour les niveaux RAID utilisant les bits de parité, comme le RAID 5, par exemple, qui utilise la parité distribuée.
Cette liaison physique est composée de quatre fils regroupés en deux paires de signaux distinctes. L'une d'entre elles transmet les signaux, l'autre les reçoit. Ces paires fonctionnent simultanément et permettent la transmission de données dans les deux sens (transmission et réception). reconstruction port de base Mise en place de plusieurs composants interchangeables pouvant remplir une même fonction afin de faire face aux risques liés aux pannes et aux erreurs.
La quantité d'espace occupée par une bande est la même sur chaque disque physique. Un élément de bande est la partie d'une bande qui réside sur un disque physique. RPM est un gestionnaire de logiciels utilisé pour installer, supprimer, interroger et vérifier les logiciels du système.
sous-système de disques Ensemble formé par des disques et par le matériel qui les contrôle et les connecte à un ou plusieurs contrôleurs. Ce matériel peut inclure un contrôleur intelligent. Les disques peuvent également être raccordés directement à un contrôleur de bus d'E/S du système. SSP Acronyme de “Serial SCSI Protocol”. Ce protocole permet la communication avec d'autres périphériques SAS. Chaque interface PHY du contrôleur SAS peut fonctionner comme un initiateur ou une cible SSP.
tolérance de pannes utilitaire de gestion RAID La tolérance de pannes est la capacité du soussystème de disques à subir une panne de lecteur par groupe de disques, sans que l'intégrité des données ni la capacité de traitement ne soit compromises. Les contrôleurs PERC 5 offrent cette fonction grâce à des disques virtuels redondants utilisant les niveaux RAID 1, 5, 10 et 50. Un utilitaire de gestion RAID permet de configurer des disques physiques dans des groupes de disques et des disques virtuels.
