Execute Disable Feature
NOTE: Verify application and operating system support before enabling this feature.
Execute Disable (XD) is a new security feature that helps prevent code execution in certain
memory areas when combined with a supporting operating system and supporting applications.
Execute Disable memory protection can help prevent a class of viruses that use buffer overflow
attacks. Execute Disable is visible under
Security Options
in the F2 BIOS System Setup program.
The feature must be enabled in System Setup and must be supported by system processors and
by the operating system to allow supporting applications to use it.
Execute Disable has two settings,
On
and
Off
, with
On
being the default setting.
On
indicates
that Execute Disable Memory Protection Technology is on.
Off
indicates that Execute Disable
Memory Protection Technology is off.
