allow additional VLANs (Voice VLAN, MVRP, GVRP) to pass traffic.
Administrators can restrict the VLAN membership of general mode ports,
and may configure VLANs that do not exist on the switch.
General mode ports may be configured to accept only tagged traffic, or
only untagged traffic, or both. When ingress filtering is enabled, the frame
is dropped if the port is not a member of the VLAN identified by the
VLAN ID in the tag. If ingress filtering is disabled, all tagged frames are
forwarded.
VLAN membership rules that apply to a port are based on the switchport
mode configured for the port. Table 17-2 shows the behavior of the three
switchport modes.
