MAC Notification
When enabled, the MAC notification feature notifies one or more MAC
address records that are either learned or aged out. Each record carries
information about the MAC address, VLAN, port, and whether it is learned or
aged out. To prevent frequent notifications, administrators can configure the
interval, and a notification with one or more records is sent only after an
interval time elapses from the previous notification. If there are no records to
be notified, an empty notification is not sent.
For the administrator's ease to look up the last few notifications sent out, the
records are also copied into the history table and a CLI command will display
the records from the history table. In addition to the record information, a
timestamp of when the notification is sent out is also displayed.
A station move or MAC move is considered to be a MAC address removed on
one port and added on another port. The move thus contributes to two
records.
Configuration allows the following:
Admin enable and disable of the feature globally.
Trap enable and disable. When disabled records are added to the history
table, but notifications are not sent out.
Interval between notifications.
History size.
