Concept Guide

When you create a peer group, it is disabled (shutdown). The following example shows the creation of a peer group (zanzibar) (in bold). To
enable a peer group, use the neighbor peer-group-name no shutdown command.
DellEMC(conf)# router bgp 45
DellEMC(conf-router_bgp)#neighbor zanzibar peer-group
DellEMC(conf-router_bgp)# neighbor zanzibar no shutdown
DellEMC(conf-router_bgp)# neighbor 10.1.1.1 remote-as 65535
DellEMC(conf-router_bgp)# neighbor 10.1.1.1 no shutdown
DellEMC(conf-router_bgp)# neighbor 10.14.8.60 remote-as 18505
DellEMC(conf-router_bgp)# neighbor 10.14.8.60 no shutdown
DellEMC(conf-router_bgp)# neighbor 2001::1/64 peer-group zanzibar
Following is the show config output for the above sample conguration.
DellEMC# show config
!
router bgp 45
neighbor zanzibar peer-group
neighbor zanzibar no shutdown
neighbor 10.1.1.1 remote-as 65535
neighbor 10.1.1.1 shutdown
neighbor 10.14.8.60 remote-as 18505
neighbor 10.14.8.60 no shutdown
neighbor 2001::1/64 peer-group zanzibar
DellEMC#
To disable a peer group, use the neighbor peer-group-name shutdown command in CONFIGURATION-ROUTER-BGP mode. The
conguration of the peer group is maintained, but it is not applied to the peer group members. When you disable a peer group, all the peers
within the peer group that are in the ESTABLISHED state move to the IDLE state.
To view the status of peer groups, use the show ip bgp peer-group command in EXEC Privilege mode, as shown in the following
example.
DellEMC>show ip bgp peer-group
Peer-group zanzibar
BGP version 4
Minimum time between advertisement runs is 5 seconds
For address family: IPv4 Unicast
BGP neighbor is zanzibar, peer-group internal,
Number of peers in this group 1
Peer-group members (* - outbound optimized):
2001::1/64
Example-Conguring BGP peer groups
The following example congurations show how to enable BGP and set up some peer groups. These examples are not comprehensive
directions. They are intended to give you some guidance with typical congurations.
To support your own IP addresses, interfaces, names, and so on, you can copy and paste from these examples to your CLI. Be sure that you
make the necessary changes.
The following illustration shows the congurations described on the following examples. These congurations show how to create BGP
areas using physical and virtual links. They include setting up the interfaces and peers groups with each other.
