Manipulating the LOCAL_PREFERENCE attribute
A more exible method for manipulating the LOCAL_PREFERENCE attribute value is to use a route-map.
To change the usage of LOCAL_PREFERENCE attribute to choose the best path among the advertised, enter any or all of the following
commands.
1 Enter the ROUTE-MAP mode and assign a name to a route-map.
CONFIGURATION mode
route-map map-name [permit | deny] [sequence-number]
2 Change LOCAL_PREF value for routes meeting the criteria of this route-map.
CONFIG-ROUTE-MAP mode
set local-preference value
3 Return to CONFIGURATION mode.
CONFIG-ROUTE-MAP mode
exit
4 Enter ROUTER BGP mode.
CONFIGURATION mode
router bgp as-number
5 Apply the route-map to the neighbor or peer group’s incoming or outgoing routes.
CONFIG-ROUTER-BGP mode
neighbor {ip-address | ipv6-address | peer-group-name} route-map map-name {in | out}
Example conguration for manipulating the LOCAL_PREFERENCE attribute
DellEMC# configure terminal
DellEMC(conf)# route-map route1 permit 10
DellEMC(conf-route-map)# set local-preference 140
DellEMC(conf-route-map)# exit
DellEMC(conf)# router bgp 400
DellEMC(conf-router_bgp)# neighbor 10.10.10.2 route-map route1 in
In the above example conguration, a route-map named route1 is created with a clause to set the specied local preference value, which
is 140.
To view the BGP conguration, use the show config command in CONFIGURATION ROUTER BGP mode. To view a route-map
conguration, use the
show route-map command in EXEC Privilege mode.
Conguring the local System or a Dierent System to be the Next Hop for
BGP-Learned Routes
You can congure the local router or a dierent router as the next hop for BGP-learned routes.
To change how the NEXT_HOP attribute is used, enter the rst command. To view the BGP conguration, use the show config
command in CONFIGURATION ROUTER BGP mode or the show running-config bgp command in EXEC Privilege mode.
You can also use route maps to change this and other BGP attributes. For example, you can include the second command in a route map to
specify the next hop address.
Disable next hop processing and congure the router (route reector) as the next hop for a BGP neighbor.
