NOTE: Configuration of an Ethernet No STP uplink with members from only one switch in the SmartFabric is not
supported. It is required to have member ports from both switches in the SmartFabric.
Dynamic onboarding for integrated devices
SFS discovers and onboards the following vendor end-host devices based on specific custom originator TLVs in LLDP PDUs
sent out through the connected ports.
iDRAC
Isilon
VxRail
Trident
VxFlex
When a new server interface is detected in an attached port, the new configuration is applied.
When an integrated device is offboarded, it is removed from the LLDP neighbor table to clean any stale resources.
Dynamic discovery of nonintegrated devices
SFS discovers end-host devices (unknown servers) dynamically based on standard LLDP PDUs without custom TLVs sent out
through the connected ports. Upon discovery, the client management network is configured by default.
NOTE: If the LLDP TLVs advertise both bridge and route capabilities, the client management network is not configured.
For onboarding a nonintegrated device (unknown server), the Port-id TLV in LLDP packet is mandatory. The system matches
the Port-id TLV value in the LLDP packet against the Interface field in the server interface profile to onboard the
nonintegrated device. Once the server profile or the server interface profile is configured, the onboard criteria for unknown
server or server interface is the same for the existing VxRail server or server interface.
If you have both integrated and nonintegrated devices on the same interface, the system discovers both the devices. If the
server profile matches with both the integrated and nonintegrated device on the same physical interface or with the same
server or server interface profile, the order of onboarding is as follows:
Integrated device
Nonintegrated device
If the integrated device is deleted for some reason, the onboard process checks the nonintegrated devices list. If any
nonintegrated device is present, the system onboards it.
If you have both integrated and nonintegrated devices with the same port ID, the system discovers both the devices. During
the onboard process, the order of onboarding is as follows:
Integrated device
Nonintegrated device
If the integrated device is deleted for some reason, the onboard process checks the nonintegrated devices list. If any
nonintegrated device is present, the system onboards it.
Consider a case where a static onboarding server profile or server interface profile is configured on an interface. If the
system discovers an integrated device and a nonintegrated device on the same interface or with the same profile, the order
of onboarding is as follows:
Statically onboarded server
Dynamically discovered integrated device
Dynamically discovered nonintegrated device
If the statically onboarded server is deleted, the onboard process checks the integrated devices list first and then the
nonintegrated devices list to onboard any device.
Statically onboarded server
STP is disabled on the attached ports.
The bonding can be auto or LACP.
All types of networks can be attached to these ports.
