Starting from Release 10.5.1.0, SmartFabric OS10 comes with a single partition. Both the active and standby software
images are stored in this partition. OS10 installation and upgrade procedures continue to work as usual.
However, after you install 10.5.1.0 (or later) image, if you want to downgrade to 10.5.0.0 (or earlier) image, you must
backup the configuration and license files. See Downgrade to Release 10.5.0.0 or earlier releases for more information.
Supported platforms: For a list of currently supported Dell EMC switches for your SmartFabric OS10 release, see the
SmartFabric OS10 Release Notes. The SmartFabric OS10 Release Notes are stored in the Dell Digital Locker (DDL) with
SmartFabric OS10 software updates.
Third-party software: Dell EMC does not support third-party software and drivers, community projects, code development, or
implementation and development of security rules and policies.
Configuration notes
All Dell EMC PowerSwitches except MX-Series:
If you pre-order a Dell EMC switch with OS10, you do not need to install a license. If you download OS10
on a trial basis, OS10 comes with a 120-day trial license. Purchase and install a perpetual license after the trial
period expires. Once the trial period expires, the switch generates an error log on the console once every hour as
follows: <165>1 2020-08-05T21:39:53.497121+00:00 OS10 dn_alm 648 - - Node.1-Unit.1:PRI [event], Dell EMC (OS10)
%LADF_LIC_EVAL_PRD_NOTICE: Evaluation license time limit notice. Evaluation license expired. Please install a valid
perpetual license.
After you install OS10 and log in, install the OS10 license by following the instructions in the OS10 User Guide - Install OS10
License section.
When you install a license using the Management VRF, only some file transfer methods like FTP, HTTP, localfs, SCP, SFTP,
TFTP and USB are supported. For more information, see the Install OS10 license section in the OS10 User Guide.
Switch with factory-installed OS10
NOTE:
Starting from Release 10.5.2.1 and later, all Dell EMC PowerSwitch switches come with OS10 Enterprise Edition
factory-loaded.
OS10 upgrades are available for download from the Dell Digital Locker (DDL). A factory-loaded OS10 image includes a perpetual
license.
On a factory-installed OS10 switch, after you log in, you can perform these tasks:
1. Log in
2. Check the OS10 version.
3. Upgrade OS10 using any of the following methods. If OS10 is preinstalled on a switch, zero-touch deployment (ZTD) is
enabled by default.
NOTE:
If you are upgrading OS10 on a pair of VLT nodes, see Upgrade OS10 on VLT nodes with minimal traffic loss.
If you are upgrading OS10 on a Z9100-ON switch, we recommend that you perform an ONIE fresh installation. See
Installation using ONIE for more information.
Upgrade OS10 automatically using ZTD
Upgrade OS10 manually from the CLI
4. If license is not installed, install the license. See Re-install the license for more information.
For more information about how to automate switch deployment, see Zero-touch deployment.
NOTE:
If a factory-installed OS10 image is deleted after booting into ONIE: Install OS mode, you must reinstall the
license.
MX Ethernet I/O modules
On Dell EMC PowerEdge MX Ethernet I/O modules, OS10 is factory-installed on the MX9116n Fabric Switching Engine and
MX5108n Ethernet Switch. The MX7116n Fabric Expander Module does not support OS10 and functions as an unmanaged
Ethernet repeater connected to a Fabric Switching Engine.
NOTE:
To install a third-party network operating system (NOS) on a Dell EMC PowerSwitch switch, see the Third-Party NOS
Installation Guide for Dell EMC PowerSwitch Switches document.
