Parameters
interface
Enter the following keywords and slot/port or number information:
• For a 10-Gigabit Ethernet interface, enter the keyword TenGigabitEthernet
then the slot/port information.
• For a 40-Gigabit Ethernet interface, enter the keyword fortyGigE then the
slot/port information.
• For a port channel interface, enter the keywords port-channel then a
number.
• For a VLAN interface, enter the keyword vlan then a number from 1 to 4094.
Defaults Enabled, that is sending of routing updates are enabled by default.

Usage Information
By default, no interfaces are passive. Routing updates are sent to all interfaces on which the routing
protocol is enabled.
If you disable the sending of routing updates on an interface, the particular address prefix continues to
be advertised to other interfaces, and updates from other routers on that interface continue to be
received and processed.
OSPFv3 for IPv6 routing information is not sent or received through the specified router interface. The
specified interface address appears as a stub network in the OSPFv3 for IPv6 domain.
On configuring suppression using the passive-interface command, the state of the OSPF neighbor does
not change to INIT; instead, the state of the OSPF neighbor changes to DOWN after the dead-timer
expires.
