Users Guide

To return to the default values, use the no neighbor {ip-address | peer-group-name} maximum-
prefix maximum command.
Parameters
ip-address Enter the IP address of the neighbor in dotted decimal format.
peer-group-name Enter the name of the peer group.
maximum Enter a number as the maximum number of prexes allowed for this BGP router. The
range is from 1 to 4294967295.
threshold (OPTIONAL) Enter a number to be used as a percentage of the maximum value. When
the number of prexes reaches this percentage of the maximum value, the E-Series
software sends a message. The range is from 1 to 100 percent. The default is 75.
warning-only (OPTIONAL) Enter the keyword warning-only to set the router to send a log message
when the maximum value is reached. If this parameter is not set, the router stops peering
when the maximum number of prexes is reached.
NOTE: When you set this option, the router accepts BGP prexes only until
the maximum congured value. After the maximum number is reached, the
router drops any additional prexes that it receives.
Defaults threshold = 75

Usage Information If you congure the neighbor maximum-prefix command and the neighbor receives more prexes than the
neighbor maximum-prefix command conguration allows, the neighbor goes down and the show ip bgp
summary
command displays (prfxd) in the State/PfxRcd column for that neighbor. The neighbor remains down
until you enter the clear ip bgp command for the neighbor or the peer group to which the neighbor belongs
or you enter the neighbor shutdown and neighbor no shutdown commands.
