Setup Guide

Configuring a Host Name
The host name appears in the prompt. The default host name is Dell.
Host names must start with a letter, end with a letter or digit, and must have
characters, letters, digits, and hyphens in the string.

Accessing the System Remotely
You can configure the S6100–ON system to access remotely using Telnet.
The system has a dedicated management port and a management routing
table that is separate from the IP routing table.
Configuring the Enable Password
Access EXEC Privilege mode using the enable command. EXEC Privilege
mode is unrestricted by default.
As a basic security measure, configure a password. There are two types of
enable passwords:
Enable password — stores the password in the running/startup
configuration using a data encryption standard (DES)-encryption method.
Enable secret — stores the password in the running/startup configuration
using a stronger, MD5-encryption method.
Dell Networking recommends using the enable secret password.
Create a password to access EXEC Privilege mode.
