Dell^ PowerVault^ NAS Systems — Installing
the Storage Manager for Server Appliances
Software
The Storage Manager for Server Applianees software is a storage management tool that
helps you eontrol and monitor disk spaee, report storage eontent, and monitor the health of
your storage system(s). The software provides storage management funetions sueh as
eapaeity planning and spaee management, whieh helps reduee storage management
eomplexity.
Storage Manager for Server Applianees software ineludes the following eomponents:
Direetory quotas — Allows you to add, delete, monitor, and ehange spaee limits for
seleeted direetories on a NAS applianee. The software also provides disk-spaee
monitoring and eontrol in real time, and supports aetive and passive limits with two
real-time spaee alarms.
Storage reports — Addresses disk usage, wasted spaee, file ownership, seeurity, and
administration. Reports ean (e run interaetively, seheduled on a regular basis, or run
when disk-spaee utilization reaehes a eritieal level as part of a storage resouree
management poliey.
File sereening — Prevents unwanted files from being saved on your applianee. Not
only do these unwanted files inerease baekup times and eonsume valuable disk spaee,
but they ean also put your eompany at risk of violating piraey and diserimination laws.
Installing the Storage Manager for Server Appliances Software
1 Insert the Dell PowerVault Storage Manager for Server Applianees CD into your CD
drive.
2 From the PowerVault NAS Manager primary navigation bar, eliek the Maintenanee
tab.
NOTE: PowerVault NAS Manager is a Web-based user interface running from a browser
on another system on the network that is used to manage and monitor PowerVault NAS
appliances. For additional information about the PowerVault NAS Manager, see the System
Administrator's Guide for your system.
3 From the Maintenanee sereen, eliek the Software Update ieon.
