About Cautions
CAUTION: A CAUTION indicates a potential for property damage, personal injury,
or death.
Removing and Installing a RAID Controller
Module
The
Dell™ PowerVault™MD3000 storage
enclosure contains two RAID
controller modules. Both are hot-pluggable and can be removed and installed
independently without shutting down the enclosure.
NOTICE: Do not power off your storage enclosure if you are replacing a RAID
controller module. The enclosure is designed to automatically update the newly
inserted RAID controller module’s firmware to match the firmware on the existing
(nonreplaced) RAID controller module. If the enclosure is powered off before you
insert the new RAID controller, the new RAID controller module may (upon system
startup) update the existing RAID controller. This may result in a firmware version
not recommended for your configuration.
NOTICE: Do not remove a RAID controller module while data traffic involving that
module is occurring. Although RAID controller modules are hot-pluggable, data loss
could result from removing a module involved in data traffic.
CAUTION: Always wear a wrist grounding strap when handling equipment
with static-sensitive components. See your Product Information Guide for safety
information.
