SMI-S
The Storage Management Initiative Specication (SMI-S) is a standard interface specication developed by the Storage Networking
Industry Association (SNIA). Based on the Common Information Model (CIM) and Web-Based Enterprise Management (WBEM) standards,
SMI-S denes common protocols and data models that enable interoperability between storage vendor software and hardware.
SMI-S Provider
The SMI-S Provider is included with the Data Collector. You can congure SMI-S during initial Data Collector installation or post-installation
by modifying the Data Collector properties. When SMI-S is enabled and congured, the Data Collector automatically installs and manages
the SMI-S Provider; no additional installation is required.
NOTE: The Storage Manager Data Collector must be installed in a Microsoft Windows environment. SMI-S is not supported on a
Virtual Appliance.
Supported Management Solutions
Storage Manager SMI-S is compatible with the following combinations of Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM)
and Microsoft Server versions.
• SCVMM 2012 SP1 running on Windows Server 2012
• SCVMM 2012 R2 running on Windows Server 2012
• SCVMM 2012 R2 running on Windows Server 2012 R2
• SCVMM 2016 R2 running on Windows Server 2016
Supported SMI-S 1.6 Proles
An SMI-S prole describes the management interfaces for a storage subsystem.
The Dell SMI-S provider packaged with Storage Manager supports the following SMI-S 1.6 proles:
