6 Congure the SMTP server settings by performing the following steps:
a In the From Email Address eld, type the email address to display as the sender of emails from the Data Collector.
b In the Host or IP Address eld, type the host name or IP address of the SMTP server.
c If the port number of the SMTP server is not 25, type the correct port number in the Port eld.
d If the SMTP server requires authentication, select the Authentication checkbox, then type the user name and password in the
SMTP User Name and SMTP User Password elds.
7 Click OK.
Congure an Email Address for Your User Account
To receive email notications, you must specify an email address for your account.
Prerequisite
The SMTP server settings must be congured for the Data Collector. If these settings are not congured, the Data Collector is not able to
send emails.
Steps
1 In the top pane of the Storage Manager Client, click Edit User Settings. The Edit User Settings dialog box opens.
2 Type the email address of the current user in the Email Address eld.
3 Select the format for emails from the Email Format drop-down menu.
4 To send a test message to the email address, click Test Email and click OK.
Verify that the test message is sent to the specied email address.
5 Click OK.

Congure Email Notication Settings for Your User Account
Make sure that Storage Manager is congured to send email notications to your account for the events that you want to monitor.
Prerequisites
• The SMTP server settings must be congured for the Data Collector. If these settings are not congured, the Data Collector is not able
to send emails.
• An email address must be congured for your user account.
Steps
1 In the top pane of the Storage Manager Client, click Edit User Settings. The Edit User Settings dialog box opens.
2 Click the Manage Events tab.
3 Select the checkbox for each event you want to be notied about.
4 Click OK.

Performing Threshold Queries
Threshold queries allow you to query historical data based on threshold criteria. For example, if a Storage Center experienced a spike of IO
usage, you could create a threshold query to discover the threshold denition settings that would have detected the event.
After you nd the threshold settings you need, you can use them to create a threshold denition that will automatically monitor the Storage
Center.
