26 Understanding RAID with Dell SC Series Storage | 3104-CD-DS
After the rebalance has completed, the storage type will change the RAID 10-DM and RAID 6 to RAID 10 and
RAID 5, respectively.
Figure 15 shows the results of changing from dual to single redundancy.
Dual to single redundancy
Note: Changing a dual redundant storage type to a single redundant storage type requires careful
consideration and should be discussed with Dell Support prior to implementation.
6.3 Creating a storage type
A storage type is a pool of storage with specified redundancy levels. SC Series arrays assess the disks
available in a disk folder and present the applicable storage type options. The default storage type and
storage profiles provide the best performance. If site-specific requirements dictate that the new disks need to
be isolated from other disks, create a disk folder for those disks and configure a storage type. A typical use
case may be for an application that requires specific disks and redundancy to meet business, performance, or
availability requirements.
Note: The SCv2000 Series controllers manage storage types automatically and do not allow storage type
creation.
