The setup of the environment required to run the tests reported in this paper included the following
software components:
Hypervisor: Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V on every physical host
Dell OpenManage Server Administrator on every physical host
Broadcom Advanced Control Suite on every physical host
Operating System: Windows Server 2008 R2 on every VM
Dell EqualLogic Host integration Toolkit to provide Dell MPIO access to the back-end SAN on each
virtual or physical machine access
Dell EqualLogic SAN Headquarters to monitor the health and performance of the SAN
Microsoft Exchange Jetstress to simulate the access to the storage subsystem for all MBX pre-fixed
VMs
Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 to run the fully populated messaging environment for all
management, CAS, HUB and mailbox server role installed in the organization
Microsoft Exchange Loadgen to simulate the client side access to the Exchange infrastructure for
the LOAD VM
The following software components were installed and configured to support the Microsoft Exchange
organization and to simplify the management of the environment:
Active Directory Domain Services and DNS Server roles for the domain controller VM
Microsoft System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) for the management VM (not
strictly required to accomplish the tests)
