Caveats
■ A maximum of one Cisco 12G SAS 9300-8e can be installed, and it can be installed only in
riser 1. Note that Storage Accelerator cards also can only be installed in riser 1. Therefore,
the system can support combinations of Storage Accelerator cards and one Cisco 12G SAS
9300-8e, but they must all be installed in riser 1.
■ For the Cisco 12G SAS Modular RAID controller, you can choose an optional RAID
configuration (RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, or 10), which is preconfigured at the factory. The RAID level
you choose must be an available RAID choice for the controller selected. RAID levels 50 and
60 are supported, although they are not available as configuration options.
■ A system supports up to 8 SATA-only drives if no Cisco 12G SAS Modular RAID controller is
chosen.

Notes . . .
1. Embedded RAID is only compatible with the 8 HDD backplane. It cannot be used with the 16 or 24 HDD
backplane, because those backplanes have SAS extenders.
2. If you want to boot from a device other than the Cisco 12G SAS
Modular RAID controller, you can leave the card
installed. Just disable the OPROM for its slot, and the system will boot even with the card installed.
3. External drive PCIe controller card is the Cisco 12G SAS 9300-8e and can be installed simultaneously with the
Cisco 12G SAS Modular RAID controller card.
