At the end of the 90-day period, you must apply for a permanent license to re-enable the features permanently
on the controller. Evaluation software license keys are only available in electronic form and are emailed to you.
When an evaluation period expires:
The controller automatically backs up the startup configuration and reboots itself at midnight (according
to the system clock).
All permanent licenses are unaffected. The expired evaluation licensed feature is no longer available and is
displayed as Expired in the WebUI.
Upgrade license—This license expands AP capacity. There are no Evaluation licenses available for Upgrade
licenses.
Multi-Controller Network
In order to configure each feature on the local controller, the master controller(s) must be licensed for each
feature configured on the local controllers. If present, a backup master must be licensed with the same features as
the Master. Backup controllers are “hot-standby”, that is, the backup controller processes AP, traffic, etc. while
standing by in backup mode.
Dell PowerConnect best practices is to install the same set of feature licenses on every controller in your network.
License Usage
Licenses are platform independent and can be installed on any Dell controller. Installation of the feature license
unlocks that feature’s functionality for the maximum capacity of the controller.
The controllers are: Controller categories are based on architecture:
MIPS Controllers—W-6000M3, W-3000 Series, W-600 Series
Table 144 list how licenses are consumed on the MIPS Controllers.
NOTE: The license limits are enforced until you reach the controller limit (see Table 145)
