Administrator Guide

NAS
Network Access Server. Device that provides network access to users, such as a wireless access point, net-
work switch, or dial-in terminal server. When a user connects to the NAS device, a RADIUS user authentication
request (Access-Request) is generated by the NAS.
native agent
Browser-based dissolvable agent that uses a separate binary file for each operating system. It does not use
Java, so it avoids the need for frequent Java updates. See also dissolvable agent, persistent agent, Java-based
agent, and OnGuard.
Network Access Server
(NAS) Device that provides network access to users, such as a wireless access point, network switch, or dial-in
terminal server. When a user connects to the NAS device, a RADIUS user authentication request (Access-
Request) is generated by the NAS.
nMAP
Network Mapper. Open source utility for network discovery and security auditing. Nmap uses IP packets to
determine such things as the hosts available on a network and their services, operating systems and versions,
types of packet filters/firewalls, and so on.
NTP
Network Time Protocol. Protocol for synchronizing the clocks of computers over a network.
O
OCSP
Online certificate status protocol (RFC 2560). Protocol used to determine the current status of a digital cer-
tificate without requiring CRLs.
Onboard
W-ClearPass application for automating 802.1x configuration and provisioning for ā€œbring your own deviceā€
(BYOD) and IT-managed devices across wired, wireless, and virtual private networks (VPNs). Information
Onboard collects during device onboarding is sent to Profile and used for device category, family, and name
classification. W-ClearPass Onboard features are part of the Onboard module in the W-ClearPass Guest
application.
onboard provisioning
Process used to securely provision a device and configure it with network settings.
onboard-capable
Device supported by the QuickConnect application.
onboarding
Process of preparing a device for use on an enterprise network, by creating the appropriate access cre-
dentials and setting up the network connection parameters. Same as device provisioning.
OnGuard
Functionality within W-ClearPass that uses persistent and dissolvable agents to perform endpoint protection,
posture assessments, and health checks, ensuring compliance is met before devices connect. See also per-
sistent agent, dissolvable agent, Java-based agent, and native agent.
