Chapter 1 Introduction
TheBirdfiberdistributedantennasystem(FiberDAS)wasdevelopedfromthestartwithfiberopticcableasthe
distributionmedium.Thisallowsforexcellentradioperformanceandbestinclasssystemnoisefigureoflessthan
3dB,fromtheremoteunitantennaporttothebasestationinterfaceport.
TheBir
dFiberDASsystemisaflexibleandscalablesolution,meaningthesystemcanbetailoredforalmostany
requirement.Thisflexibilityprovidestheusertheabilitytoadjustmanyofthesystemsparameterstofittheir
specificneeds.

Afiberdistributedantennasystem(FiberDAS)isanefficientmethodoftransmittingradiosignalsoverlarge
distances.OurFiberDAScanprovideasmuchas30kmoffiberbetweentheheadendandtheremoteunit,
providingthat theradioaccesstechnologyusedintheRadioAccessNetwork(RAN)doe
snotsuffertimingissuesand
thatthefiberlossiswithinthespecification.
TheFib
erDASusesaninfraredlightsource,modulatedwiththecombinedradiosignalsthatneedtobe
propagated.Thefiberchannelsystemisultrawideband,rangingfrom88MHzupto2600MHz,thuscoveringmost
typesofradiocommunicationsystemsincludingasFMbroadcast,VHFcommunicationradios,LT
E,TETRA,GSM,
CDMA,WCDMAandmanyotherradioaccesstechnologies.
