(ICU),andFiberOpticInterface(FOI)cards.

Functional description
OneMFUsupport
sseveralmodules,orcombinationofmoduletypes.Themodulescanbeplacedanywhereinthe
frame.Thereare16singleslotcardpositionsineachMFU,howevermodulewidthsvary(seeeachmodule’s
specifications)sothenumberofmodulethatwillfitinanMFUdependsonthemoduletype.On
eMFUcanhouseup
to4powersupplies,8ICUs,8wideBIUs,16slimBIUs,16FOIs,orcombinationofmodules.See

EachMFUreq
uiresatleastonepowersupply,althoughthepowersupplydoesnotneedtobehousedwithinthe
MFU.QuiteoftenasystemhasmorethanonepowersupplyandtheyareusuallyplacedtogetherinoneMFUfor
easyaccess.EachMFUhastwopowerinputconnectors,oneprimaryandoner
edundant.Aredundantpowersupply
connectedtoanMFUensurescontinuedoperationifoneofthepowersuppliesshouldfail.
TheMFUcontainstwove
ntilationfanscirculatingambientairthroughtheunitshousedintheframe.Thesearehigh
qualityfanswithahighmeantimebetweenfailure(MTBF).
EachModuleintheMFUarea
ssignedanIPaddressesviaDHCPleases,modulesinherittheMACaddressfromthe
backplane,thisensuresthatanewmoduleinsertedintherackreceivesthesameIPaddressastheoneitis
replacing,withouttheneedofmanualconfiguration.
