What type generator is best?
HONDA generators come in many sizes and styles.
It can be confusing to choose one. Here are some
things to consider:
• Buy one that's a little bigger than you currently
need. While weight and cost are important factors,
there is no-such-thing as too much power.
• Make sure it has the features you need. If you end
up buying a less expensive, but louder unit and run
in a campground, your neighbors won't like you.
Spending a little extra to get a quiet model with
more features gives you additional flexibility.

What are watts?
Most generators are rated by the maximum
amount of power or watts they can produce.
HONDA generators show this in their model
number. For example, an EU1000 will pro-
duce a maximum of 1000 watts.
• What are watts? Watts are: Volts X Amps.
In other words, 110 volts X 4 amps = 440
watts. So if you don’t know how much
power a particular appliance requires, look
in the owner’s manual for the amps it needs
to run. Sometimes this information can also
be found on a tag on the unit. Once you
know amps and volts, you can figure watts.
• When selecting a generator, remember it's
rated at its maximum output, but it will not
perform at this level for long periods. Also,
remember that power cords and plugs
reduce the efficiency of any generator. This
means if you figure you need 2500 watts,
buy a 3000 watt generator.
Which size is most common?
Picking a generator can be tough because
there are so many choices. Here are few sug-
gestions:
• Need to run a few lights? A 1000 watt
model will work great. It also comes with a
built-in 12 volt battery charger.
• Need to also run a SILVEY® chain grinder?
You'll want one that produces at least 3000
watts.
• Need to power everything above including
a fully equipped camp trailer with an air
conditioner? Consider a 7000 watt model.
