VENT-FREE NATURAL GAS RADIANT® FLAME HEATER ASSEMBLY ASSEMBLING HEATER Tools Required: • Phillips screwdriver • 5/16" hex wrench • Slotted screwdriver Removing Front Panel Of Heater 1. 2. Remove two screws near bottom corners of front panel with Phillips screwdriver. Pull bottom of front panel forward, then down (see Figure 2) . WARNING: Always have burner shield and screen in place before operating heater. This prevents excessive temperatures on heater surfaces.

Locate four brass screws, two adjusting plates with set screws, and two shims in the hardware packet. Align shim under adjusting plate as shown in Figure 6. Slide one end of adjusting plate/shim in slot on mitered edge of top brass trim (see Figure 6).

OWNER’S MANUAL AIR FOR COMBUSTION AND VENTILATION Continued DETERMINING FRESH-AIR FLOW FOR HEATER LOCATION Determining if You Have a Confined or Unconfined Space Use this worksheet to determine if you have a confined or unconfined space. Space: Includes the room in which you will install heater plus any adjoining rooms with doorless passageways or ventilation grills between the rooms. 1. VENT-FREE NATURAL GAS RADIANT® FLAME HEATER AIR FOR COMBUSTION AND VENTILATION 12" Continued VENTILATION AIR Ventilation Air From Inside Building Ventilation Grills into Adjoining Room, Option 1 This fresh air would come from an adjoining unconfined space. When ventilating to an adjoining unconfined space, you must provide two permanent openings: one within 12" of the ceiling and one within 12" of the floor on the wall connecting the two spaces (see options 1 and 2, Figure 8).

OWNER’S MANUAL INSTALLATION NOTICE: This heater is intended for use as supplemental heat. Use this heater along with your primary heating system. Do not install this heater as your primary heat source. If you have a central heating system, you may run system’s circulating blower while using heater. This will help circulate the heat throughout the house. In the event of a power outage, you can use this heater as your primary heat source. NOTICE: A qualified service person must install heater.

OWNER’S MANUAL INSTALLATION Continued Attaching To Wall Anchor Method For attaching mounting bracket to hollow walls (wall areas between studs) or solid walls (concrete or masonry) 1. Drill holes at marked locations using 5/16" drill bit. For solid walls (concrete or masonry), drill at least 1" deep. 2. Fold wall anchor as shown in Figure 14. 3. Insert wall anchor (wings first) into hole. Tap anchor flush to wall. 4. For thin walls (1/2" or less), insert red key into wall anchor.

WARNING: If installing the GHB802 or GHB802A base on heater, and using with a GA series heater blower accessory along with a GS601 surround or a GM800 or GM900 series mantel, the surround or mantel clearance to back wall should be 3/4 inch. This will improve flame appearance and combustion.

Assembling Mantel IMPORTANT: Only use the optional mantels specified in this manual. See Accessories, pages 24 and 25 for proper mantel kits. This heater is only approved for use with models GMF800(A,B)/GMU801(A,B), GM900F(A,B)/GM901U(A,B), GM700F/ GM701U, GMC22F/GMC23U/GMC24U, GMC32F(B)/GMC33U(B), and GMC26F/ GMC27U/GMC28F mantel kits.

Correct all leaks at once. WARNING: Never use an open flame to check for a leak. Apply a mixture of liquid soap and water to all joints. Bubbles forming show a leak. Correct all leaks at once. When lighting the pilot, follow these instructions exactly. B. BEFORE LIGHTING smell all around the appliance area for gas. VENT-FREE NATURAL GAS RADIANT® FLAME HEATER OPERATING HEATER Continued THERMOSTAT CONTROL OPERATION BURNER FLAME PATTERN INSPECTING BURNER Check pilot flame pattern and burner flame pattern often. PILOT FLAME PATTERN The thermostatic control used on this heater differs from standard thermostats. Standard thermostats simply turn on and off the burner. The thermostat used on this heater senses the room temperature. The thermostat adjusts the amount of gas flow to the burner.

OWNER’S MANUAL TROUBLESHOOTING CAUTION: Never use a wire, needle, or similar object to clean ODS/pilot. This can damage ODS/ pilot unit. WARNING: Turn off and unplug heater and let cool before servicing. Only a qualified service person should service and repair heater. Note: All troubleshooting items are listed in order of operation. OBSERVED PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE REMEDY When ignitor button is pressed, there is no spark at ODS/pilot 1. Ignitor cable pinched or wet 1.

Do not touch any electrical switch; do not use any phone in your building. Immediately call your gas supplier from a neighbor’s phone. Follow the gas supplier’s instructions. If you cannot reach your gas supplier, call the fire department. IMPORTANT: Operating heater where impurities in air exist may create odors.

CAUTION : You must keep control areas, burner, and circulating air passageways of heater clean. Inspect these areas of heater before each use. Have heater inspected yearly by a qualified service person. Heater may need more frequent cleaning due to excessive lint from carpeting, pet hair, etc.
