Installation Instructions

REMOVING SHEET VINYL
To remove old resilient sheet floors, cut the wear layer into narrow strips, being careful not to score the
subfloor. After the wear layer has been removed, the remaining felt should be dampened with water to
prevent release of any asbestos fiber and scraped using floor scrapers. Dispose of the waste using
plastic garbage bags.
PATCHING OR LEVELING
Patch or fill any holes or cracks and do any necessary smoothing using latex underlayment and seal the
surface with a latex floor primer. Make sure that the floor is smooth, clean and completely free of wax,
grease, oil or dust before laying the tile.
INSTALLING TILE
Important: The L-Grout line™ system is designed so that the beveled edge of one tile is butted up
against the square unbeveled edge of the adjoining tile to make a virtually seamless grout line between
the two tiles that is approximately 1/4" wide. The L-Grout Line™ system gives you two excellent options:
a) leave it as is without applying grout, or b) fill in the L-Grout lines™ with a flexible grout (see Grout
Application below).
Tile and room to be installed must be maintained at a stable temperature between 65 degrees and 85
degrees Fahrenheit for 24 hours before and after installation as well as for the life of the product. For
best color match, use tiles from two or more packages and check to be sure that all pattern and lot
numbers are the same.
1. Pry up wood moldings around the perimeter of the floor so that the tile can be placed underneath
during installation.
2. Find the center of the room to be tiled by snapping a chalk line from center points of opposite walls.
The center of your room will be where the chalk lines intersect (see Illustration #1). Use chalk lines as a
guide for laying your tile.
3. Lay a row of loose tile (do not remove the release paper) along the chalk lines starting at the center
and working toward the wall.
4. If the distance between the wall and edge of the last full tile is less than half a tile, strike a new chalk
line 6" from the previous chalk line to establish your starting point (see Illustration #2). This will eliminate
small cuts around the edges, leave a uniform border and maintain a balanced layout.
5. Remove release paper from the back of each tile as you install it.
