Aftertreatment Device Operating Requirements
NOTICE: Not following the operating requirements may result in damage to
the Aftertreatment Device (ATD) or accelerated ash plugging of the diesel
particulate filter.
NOTICE: Do not use kerosene or fuel blended with used lube oil.
Oxidation of particulate matter is the key to filter performance. This requires that
the catalyzing agent (platinum-coated passages) provide optimum enhancement to
the oxidation process. The following requirements must be met; otherwise the
Aftertreatment Device (ATD) warranty may be compromised:
Use Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel Fuel (ULSD) with 15 ppm sulfur content or less,
based on ASTM D2622 test procedure.
Lube oil must have a sulfated ash level less than 1.0 wt %, currently referred to
as API FA-4, CK-4 and CJ-4 oil. Detroit™ currently recommends DFS 93K223
(API FA-4) for GHG17, GHG14 and EPA10 engines and DFS 93K222 (API
CK-4) for EPA07 engines.
