34.1 DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION OF FLYWHEEL, FLYWHEEL HOUSING AND RELATED PARTS

34.1.3 Flywheel Housing

The ﬂywheel housing is a one-piece aluminum casting mounted against the rear of the engine. It

provides a cover for the gear drive and houses the ﬂywheel. The crankshaft rear oil seal, which is

pressed into the housing, may be removed or installed without removing the housing.

The power steering pump on some applications may be mounted on the ﬂywheel housing. An

engine barring or locking device can be attached at the opening on the bottom of the ﬂ ywheel

housing. This allows the engine to be barred or locked for maintenance or repair work.
