34.4 REMOVAL OF THE FLYWHEEL
Pre-cleaning is not necessary.
Remove as follows:
1. Remove the crankshaft position sensor (CKP). Refer to section .
2. Remove eleven of the twelve ywheel attaching bolts, leaving one bolt at the 12 o'clock
position.
3. Install two ywheel guide studs (J–41672) through the ywheel and into the crankshaft
at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions.
4. Attach the ywheel lifting tool (J–25026) or some other suitable lifting device, to the
ywheel.
5. Attach a chain hoist to the l ifting tool.
6. Loosen, but do not remove the last ywheel attaching bolt.
FALLING FLYWHEEL
To avoid i njury from a falling ywheel when re moving the
last bolt, hold the ywheel again st the crankshaft by hand
to prevent it from slipping off the cran kshaft. The ywheel
is not doweled to the crankshaft.
7. Lift lightly on ywheel using lifting device and remove last bolt.
BODILY INJURY
To avoid injury from a falling component, ensure a proper
lifting device is used. Never stand be neath a suspe nded
load.
8. Remove ywheel.
