DDEC IV TESTING
Intermittent Black Smoke
Perform the following steps for Intermittent Black Smoke.
1. Check for diagnostic trouble codes.
[a] If Fault Codes are logged, diagnose the logged codes first.
2. Visually inspect the air filter restrictions.
[a] If the air filter is clogged or dirty, replace the air filter.
3. Visually inspect the air inlet hoses for soft or collapsed areas.
[a] If the air inlet hoses are damaged, replace as necessary.
4. Visually inspect the air inlet for restrictions.
[a] If the air inlet has restrictions, clean as necessary.
5. Perform Test A .Page5–7.
6. Perform Exhaust Gas Recirculation System Basic Checks. .Page5–9.
7. Te st drive the vehicle with DDDL and perform a snapshot. Analyze the snapshot.
8. Perform Test B .Page5–8.
