SDS Chuck (Fig. 4)
WARNING: Turn off tool and remove battery pack from tool before changing
accessories or making any adjustments.
CAUTION: Do not use chipping bits in this tool. Using chipping bits may cause the
tool to bind-up and damage to the tool may occur.
To insert bit, insert shank of bit about 19 mm (3/4") into chuck (J) . Push and rotate bit
until it locks in place. The bit will be securely held.
To release bit, pull the sleeve (K) back and remove the bit.
Quick-Change Chuck (DC234-XE only)
1. Turn the locking collar (L) to the unlock position and pull the tool holder (M) off
as shown in Figure 5.
2. Push the chuck (N) onto the spindle and turn the locking collar to the lock position.
3. To replace the chuck with the tool holder, first remove the chuck as in Step 1.
Replace with the tool holder as in Step 2.
NOTE: Never use standard chucks in the hammerdrilling mode.
Drilling
WARNING: Turn off tool and remove battery pack from tool before changing
accessories or making any adjustments.
1. Use sharp drill bits only. For MASONRY, such as brick, cement, cinder block,
etc., use carbide-tipped bits rated for percussion drilling. Be sure the material
to be drilled is anchored or clamped firmly. If drilling thin material, use a wood
“back-up” block to prevent damage to the material.
2. Always apply pressure in a straight line with the bit. Use enough pressure to keep
drill biting, but do not push hard enough to stall the motor or deflect the bit.
3. Hold tool firmly with both hands to control the twisting action of the drill.
4. IF DRILL STALLS, it is usually because it is being overloaded or improperly used.
RELEASE TRIGGER IMMEDIATELY, remove drill bit from work, and determine
cause of stalling. DO NOT CLICK TRIGGER ON AND OFF IN AN ATTEMPT TO
START A STALLED DRILL — THIS CAN DAMAGE THE DRILL.
5. Keep the motor running when pulling the bit back out of a drilled hole. This will
help prevent jamming.
