- Creating or Changing Ratings Restrictions
- 1 Press the Menu button, select the Settings tile, and then select Parental Controls.
- 2 If the receiver is locked, enter the password using the remote control’s number pad. The receiver displays stars (*) as you enter the digits of the password.
- 3 To create or change parental controls based on program ratings, select Edit Ratings.
- 4 Highlight the least restrictive rating that you want to block. Press Select to lock the highlighted rating and all ratings that are more restrictive than it (for example, locking the PG-13 rating automatically locks R, NC-17 and NR/AO ratings).
- 5 Select the expanded rating code(s), if you want to also lock these program ratings.

- 1 Connect an HDMI cable between the HDMI connection on your DISH receiver and HDTV set or HD monitor.

- No Picture on TV Connected to Hopper
- 1 Connect the three RCA-type cable connections (yellow for video and red/white for audio) between the receiver outputs and the TV where your Hopper is located.
- 2 Make sure that both your DISH receiver and TV are turned on (not in standby or power- saving mode).
- 3 Make sure the TV where your DISH receiver is located is set to view the RCA-type audio/ video inputs or source. Look on the back of your TV or consult your TV user’s guide for more information on selecting the right input/source.
- 4 Change the DISH receiver’s HDTV settings, if needed, as described on page 94.
- 5 Switch the TV where the Hopper with Sling HD DVR is located to display from the HD inputs (HDMI or component video) that you selected in the previous sections. If you have a picture on this TV, then you are finished.
- 6 Repeat steps 4 and 5 until the TV displays a video image from your Hopper with Sling.
- Setting Up to Display in HD
- 1 Consult your HDTV user’s guide for the best HD-format resolution that the TV supports (typically, this is either 1080i/1080p or 720p).
- 2 Press the MENU button, select the Settings tile, then select Format TV, and then HDTV.
- 3 Select the TV Type that matches the high-definition resolution that your TV supports.
- 4 Also from this screen, you can select the Aspect Ratio option best suited to your TV:
- 5 When you are finished, highlight and select the Save option.
- 6 If required, set up your HDTV to display in the best format. If you are connected using an HDMI cable, some HDTVs will automatically adjust the resolution setting to the receiver.

- 1 Connect the Home Video Network output jack on the back panel of the Hopper with Sling HD DVR to an existing wall cable outlet using a coaxial cable.
- 2 Connect the Joey Receiver(s) in other room(s) to existing wall cable outlet(s) using coaxial cable(s).
- 3 Connect each room’s Joey Receiver(s) output jack to an audio/video input of the TV.
- 4 Turn on every remote TV and Joey Receiver connected to the in-home cabling system. If you have not already done so, you should pair a remote control to each Joey Receiver.
- 5 Follow the on-screen prompts or included instructions for linking each Joey Receiver to your Hopper with Sling HD DVR. (The Hopper with Sling system is the host equipment for DISH Whole-Home DVR services.)
- 6 Confirm that you see a picture from your Joey Receiver(s) on your remote TV(s).

- 1 Press the Menu button, select the Settings tile, Network Setup, and then Phone Line.
- 2 Select the Touch Phone or the Rotary Phone option under Phone Type.
- 3 Select either the No Prefix or the Prefix Code option under Outside Line.
- 4 If you selected No Prefix, then select Save.
- 5 If you selected Prefix Code, the receiver highlights the box where you must enter the exact sequence used when dialing via an outside line. Use the on-screen number pad.

USB Digital Over-The-Air Tuner
USB DIGITAL OVER-THE-AIR TUNER
Visit the mydish.com website and log in to your DISH account to purchase the optional
USB Digital OTA (Over-The-Air) Tuner. After connecting the tuner to one of the USB 2.0
ports on your Hopper with Sling HD DVR, you can watch and record free local channels.
Do the following:
1 Connect the USB plug of your Digital OTA Tuner into one of the USB 2.0 ports on your
Hopper with Sling HD DVR. Note that the Hopper with Sling HD DVR currently supports
one external USB-connected device at a time. (The OTA tuner does not work connected to
the USB port on a Joey Receiver.)
2 Connect the coaxial port connection of your Digital OTA Tuner to your optional over-the-air
antenna, purchased separately from a consumer electronics retailer.
3 Press the MENU button on the remote control or front panel of the Hopper with Sling HD
DVR, highlight and select the Settings tile on the MAIN MENU, then Diagnostics, and
then Over the Air Locals.
4 Select Scan to begin searching for channels your OTA antenna picks up in your area.
These channels will be added automatically to the Program Guide of your DISH system,
and will be available for live TV viewing as well as DVR recording of over-the-air content.
