RS485 connection with intrinsically safe equipment
Cable type (3): e.g. Belden 3107A, 2 x 2 AWG 22
Wiring must comply with the following safety parameters:
U
i = 8.01 V; Ii = 0.105 A; Pi = 0.21 W; Ci = 250 nF; Li = 100 µH
U
o = 8.01 V; Io = 0.105 A; Po = 0.21 W; Co = 350 nF; Lo =
250 µH
C

5.1.3 RS485 connection with non-intrinsically safe
equipment via Z-barriers
The X-zone can be connected with non-intrinsically safe
equipment (e.g. PC RS485 interface) via Z-barriers. Series
switching of the types Pepperl+Fuchs Z757 with
Pepperl+Fuchs Z966H (BAS 01 ATEX 7005 and IECEx SIM
06.0012 XX) is permitted as follows:
CAUTION
Use connection XEXT1 either for charging (pin 4, 5) or
the RS485 port (pin 1, 2, 3). Using the same
connections for both applications at the same time is
not permitted.
CAUTION
Ensure that the cable strands are not crossed!

WARNING
Explosion hazard!
Comply with the sequence of the Z-barriers.
Make sure the cable strands do not cross.
Make sure the cable length is max. 25 m is.
Potential equalisation must be applied along the
intrinsically safe circuits.
The explosion protection no longer applies when not
using potential equalisation along the intrinsically safe
circuit.
