Drobo 5N Getting Started Guide 16
Connecting the Cables and Turning on Your
Drobo 5N
After installing Drobo Dashboard and inserting the hard drives into your Drobo 5N, you are ready
to connect the cables and power on your Drobo device.
As you follow the steps, refer to the image below.
Notes:
-
Your Drobo 5N is set to automatically obtain an IP address once connected to your network.
After initial setup, you can set a static IP address if desired. For more information, see
Configuring Network Settings for Your Drobo 5N in the Online User Guide.
-
After you connect your Drobo device to your network, Drobo Dashboard will “discover” your
Drobo device. If it does not, make sure your network supports Dynamic Host Configuration
Protocol (DHCP), which assigns IP addresses to devices on a network. You can refer to the
documentation for your router or switch. If it does not, you will have to directly connect your
Drobo 5N to one of your computer’s Ethernet ports for the initial setup.
Your Drobo 5N connects to a network using an Ethernet port.
1.
Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the back of your Drobo 5N.
2.
Plug the other end into your router or switch.
3.
Connect the power supply to the power connection at the back of your Drobo device.
4.
Connect the other end of the power supply to a power source.
Note: We recommend plugging into an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) or surge
protector. For more information, see Using Power Protection.
5.
With Drobo Dashboard running on your host computer, press the power toggle button on the
back of your Drobo device once.
The following results:
Your Drobo device powers on.
Message boxes may initially appear while Drobo Dashboard automatically discovers your
device and formats your drives.
