CONCRETE FLOOR PAINT is a specially formulated smooth latex paint
for interior and exterior concrete garage floors, patios, sidewalks, steps, and wooden
surfaces and trim. Perfect for decorative concrete stenciling.
GENERAL SURFACE PREPARATION: Surfaces must be thoroughly clean. If using
a pressure washer, do not use a setting above 1750 PSI to avoid damaging the
concrete. Surface must be thoroughly dry before painting. To verify the surface is
thoroughly dry and free of residual trapped moisture, tape a 1ft. by 1ft. square piece
of plastic onto the surface and let stand for 24 hours. If moisture is present on the
concrete side of the plastic, the surface has not dried sufficiently. Allow additional
drying and retest. Surface porosity is important for proper product adhesion. Before
application, test concrete porosity by sprinkling a few drops of water onto the surface
in several areas. If water is readily absorbed, you are ready to paint. If it beads or
lays on the surface, additional cleaning and etching is required. Refer to “ACID
ETCHING INSTRUCTIONS” below.
NOTE: Multiple cans of the same color should be mixed together for uniformity.
INTERIOR BARE & PREVIOUSLY PAINTED CONCRETE OR WOOD:
PREPARATION: Surfaces must be thoroughly clean. Remove loose or flaking
paint by wire brushing or scraping. Dull glossy, previously painted surfaces with
sandpaper. For bare surfaces that are highly troweled or smooth, acid etching is
required. Refer to “ACID ETCHING INSTRUCTIONS” below.
APPLICATION: Stir thoroughly before and during application. Air and surface
temperatures must be above 50°F (10°C) during application and remain there for
4 hours after application for proper film formation to occur. Apply first coat by brush
(a good quality nylon/polyester blend) or 1/4" (6.35 mm) nap roller. For unpainted
surfaces, the first coat should be thinned with one pint of water per gallon of paint.
For previously painted surfaces in good condition, apply full strength. Allow 4 hours
drying time and apply a second coat.
GARAGE FLOORS & EXTERIOR CONCRETE:
PREPARATION: Surfaces must be thoroughly clean and all previous coatings must
be removed. Previous coats of DRYLOK
®
Concrete Floor Paint in good condition
do not have to be removed. Freshly poured concrete and new concrete must cure
30 days before painting. All surfaces subject to vehicle traffic, highly troweled
or extremely smooth concrete, must be acid etched. Refer to “ACID ETCHING
INSTRUCTIONS” below. Concrete surface profile 4 and above required.
APPLICATION: Stir thoroughly before and during application. Air and surface
temperatures must be above 50°F (10°C) during application and remain there for 4
hours after application for proper film formation to occur. Thin the first coat with one
pint of water per gallon of paint and apply by brush (a good quality nylon/polyester
blend) to ensure good adhesion. Allow to dry 4 hours. Apply a second coat full
strength by brush or 1/4" (6.35 mm) nap roller.
ACID ETCHING INSTRUCTIONS: Treat with DRYLOK
®
powder or liquid Concrete
and Masonry Etch & Cleaner according to manufacturer’s directions. Properly
prepared concrete should look and feel like medium grit sandpaper. If concrete
remains smooth, repeat etching procedure. Surface must be free of all residual
etching compounds. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry. Do not etch painted surfaces.
WARNING! If you scrape, sand or remove old paint, you may release lead
dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS
ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN.
PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH-
approved respirator to control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA
vacuum and a wet mop. Before you start, find out how to protect yourself
and your family by contacting the National Lead Information Hotline at
1-800-424-LEAD or log on to www.epa.gov/lead.
DRYING: Allow to dry for 4 hours before subjecting to light foot traffic and 24 hours
before subjecting to heavy foot traffic. Allow 5 days before subjecting to automobile
use. If air and surface temperatures are below 50°F (10°C), the relative humidity is
above 60%, or the coating is applied too thick, the drying time may increase.
COVERAGE: 300 to 400 sq. ft. (27.87-37.16 m
2
) per gallon.
DO NOT OVER APPLY.
CLEAN UP: Warm soapy water.
IMPORTANT: If floors (other than garages) are subjected to hydrostatic
pressure (water seeping from underneath the floor) or are continually damp,
apply DRYLOK
®
Floor & Wall Masonry Waterproofer according to directions
before topcoating with DRYLOK
®
Concrete Floor Paint. Moisture caused by
water seeping through floor-wall joints or cracks must also be eliminated. Use
DRYLOK
®
Fast Plug
®
, a fast setting hydraulic cement, to fill floor-wall joints or
cracks before painting.
WARNING! Cancer hazard: Contains Crystalline Silica, which can cause
cancer. (Risk of cancer depends on duration and level of exposure.)
Overexposure may cause lung and kidney damage. Close container after
each use.
Use only with adequate ventilation. Do not breathe vapors. Ensure fresh
air entry during application and drying. If you experience eye watering,
headache or dizziness or if air monitoring demonstrates vapor levels are
above applicable limits, wear an appropriate, properly fitted respirator (NIOSH
approved) during and after application. Follow respirator manufacturer's
directions for respirator use. Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing. Wash
thoroughly after handling.
First Aid: If you experience difficulty breathing, leave the area to obtain fresh
air. If continued difficulty is experienced, call poison control center, hospital
emergency room, or physician immediately.
KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
DO NOT TAKE INTERNALLY.
KEEP FROM FREEZING.
