Determine whether you will vent the stove through the ceiling/roof (“Up”) or through the wall (“Out”):

Determine how much black connector pipe you need:
If you vent through the ceiling/roof (“Up”), measure the distance from the top of the stove to the ceiling.
If you vent through the wall (“Out”), measure the distance from the top of the stove to the exit point in the wall. This includes:
(a) the distance from the top of the stove to the 90° elbow; and
(b) the distance from the 90° elbow to the wall.
Note: DuraBlack® connector pipe requires 18" clearance to combustibles.
To determine the chimney length, measure from the ceiling support (up)
or wall trim hole (out) to roof line. Plus determine chimney height above the roof
line to meet local building code.
Use the “10/2 Rule,” to determine chimney height above the roofline.
• You must have 3 feet of clearance above the roofline
• Then add chimney length until you have a 10-foot clearance that is 360° around
the chimney
• Once you have obtained the 10-foot clearance, you must add 2 additional
feet of chimney for your total length, as shown in the illustration at right:
If you are installing “through the wall,” you will need support straps for every 4 feet of chimney length you install. Two straps
are included in the “Through the Wall Kit” (Item# 36626). Northern offers additional straps to complete the job:
