Specification

Product Description The USG Durock Shower System Waterproofing Membrane is an innovative membrane that features
an oriented HDPE, cross-laminated core that provides strength and tear resistance at much thinner mil
thicknesses (12 mil), making it the most pliable, user-friendly membrane in the industry, with the least
amount of buildup at seams.
The USG Durock Shower System Waterproofing Membrane is one of the strongest, most tear-resistant
membranes on the market. And since it has the lowest perm rating of any load-bearing, bonded waterproofing
membrane when tested to ASTM E96 Procedure E (<0.075 perms), it is ideal not only for showers and other
wet areas, but for continuous-use residential and commercial steam showers.
The USG Durock Shower System Waterproofing Membrane meets the permeability rating requirement of 0.5
perms or less and can be used in steam showers/rooms in accordance with Tile Council of North America
(TCNA) 2013 Handbook for Ceramic, Glass, and Stone Tile Installation (SR613-13 and SR614-13).

Installation Walls (including steam shower walls):
A. Select code-approved wall substrate suitable for wet areas.
B. Apply unmodified thin-set mortar (as specified in ANSI A118.1) to wall substrate using 3/16 inch x 3/16 inch
(5 mm x 5 mm) V-notched trowel or 1/8 inch x 1/8 inch (3 mm x 3 mm) square or U-notched trowel.
C. Embed USG Durock Waterproofing Membrane into the mortar using a finishing trowel or drywall taping knife
to remove air pockets and to ensure proper installation.
D. Overlap all adjoining sections of the membrane by a minimum of 2 inches (51 mm) using unmodified
thin-set mortar (as specified in ANSI A118.1). Alternatively, adjoining sections of USG Durock Shower
System Waterproofing Membrane can be abutted and then seamed with 5" (13 cm) wide USG Durock
