Installation Guide

DUROCK
Shower System Benches are constructed of durable expanded lightweight
polystyrene (EPS) and are prefabricated in various shapes for simple installation using
unmodified thin-set mortar. Note: Before installing, make sure the substrate is clean
and that the floor and walls are square and plumb.
1. Apply unmodified thin-set mortar to the substrate using a 1/4 x 3/8 in. (6 x 10 mm)
square or u-notched trowel.
2. Firmly embed the D
UROCK
Shower System Bench into the mortar making sure to
achieve proper adhesion and full support of the bench. Tip: Before installing the
bench, in addition to applying thin-set mortar to the substrate, also use thin-set
mortar to skim coat the bench’s back, sides, and bottom.
3. Waterproof the entire surface of the bench with the D
UROCK
Waterproofing
Membrane. Apply unmodified thin-set mortar using a 3/16 x 3/16 in. (5 x 5 mm)
v-notched trowel or 1/8 x 1/8 in. (3 x 3 mm) square or u-notched trowel. Embed
D
UROCK
Shower System Waterproofing Membrane into the mortar using a finishing
trowel, drywall taping knife, or similar tool to remove air pockets and to ensure proper
adhesion. Tip: Start from the center and work toward the edges.
4. To achieve a watertight connection to the walls and shower base, use D
UROCK
Waterproofing Band and D
UROCK
Preformed Inside and Outside Corners; apply these
in the same manner as the D
UROCK
Waterproofing Membrane, using unmodified
thin-set mortar.
Note: D
UROCK
Shower System Benches can be cut to virtually any size or shape to
accommodate unique applications or jobsite conditions. In addition, custom or unique
shapes can be created by simply joining multiple benches together using unmodified
thin-set mortar. They can also be installed directly on the subfloor or on top of the
D
UROCK
Pre-Sloped Shower Tray.
