DATA LINK MODULE - HD DELPHI ECM Thank you for purchasing a Dynojet Data Link Module - HD Delphi ECM. The Dynojet Data Link Module (DJ-DLM) allows data, such as spark advance (front and rear cylinder), throttle position, head temperature, inlet air temperature, commanded AFR, and numerous other parameters to be transmitted from the motorcycle’s Electronic Control Unit (ECU) via the motorcycle’s data port. The WinPEP 7 software lets you easily view, save, and compare this data using just a few mouse clicks.
DATA LINK MODULE - HD DELPHI ECM Introduction INTRODUCTION ................................... Before you begin using WinPEP 7 (Performance Evaluation Program for Windows) with your DJ-DLM, be sure to read this guide for important system requirements and installation instructions. Refer to the Dynojet WinPEP 7 User Guide (P/N 98118103) for detailed information about WinPEP 7 features and commands, a theoretical background, and a hands-on tutorial.
DATA LINK MODULE - HD DELPHI ECM WinPEP 7 Specifications WINPEP 7 SPECIFICATIONS ................................... WinPEP 7 software can be used in two ways: • To gather, view and print data from expansion systems such as the DJ-DLM, or from saved dyno results. • To collect data from the dyno electronics, calibration data, and user notes to calculate engine power and torque based on the specific drum mass of a dynojet dynamometer.
DATA LINK MODULE - HD DELPHI ECM DJ-DLM Set Up DJ-DLM SET UP ................................... This section provides basic instructions for setting up the DJ-DLM with WinPEP 7. To ensure safety and accuracy, perform the procedures as they are described.
DATA LINK MODULE - HD DELPHI ECM DJ-DLM Set Up CONFIGURING THE DJ-DLM IN WINPEP 1 Start the WinPEP software by double-clicking the desktop icon or by selecting Start ! All Programs ! WinPEP 7 ! WinPEP 7. When WinPEP starts, the Graph View shows by default. 2 3 4 5 6 7 Verify your computer is connected to the dyno electronics and the dyno electronics is powered on. Refer to the “Connecting the Dyno Electronics” section of your WinPEP User Guide for more information.
DATA LINK MODULE - HD DELPHI ECM DJ-DLM Set Up ESTABLISHING A CONNECTION When you have connected your DJ-DLM properly, you will see the message, “Device Connected - ECU Communicating” displayed at the bottom of the dialog box as shown in Figure 3. Figure 3: Device is Connected and Communicating with the ECU If the device is not connected to your computer, or is not communicating with the bike’s ECU, you will see an error message displayed at the bottom of the dialog box.
DATA LINK MODULE - HD DELPHI ECM DJ-DLM Set Up TROUBLESHOOTING CONNECTION ERRORS If you do not see the Device Connected - Communicating with the ECU, check to see that you are not experiencing one of the following problems: Problem Device Not Connected TRY THIS Verify that USB cable is plugged into computer and is making connection. Error Communicating with ECU Verify that bike power is turned on and if there is a ready to start switch it is turned on. If necessary start the bike.
DATA LINK MODULE - HD DELPHI ECM DJ-DLM Set Up DJ-DLM DIAGNOSTIC CODES From the Dynojet Data Link Module - Delphi ECM dialog box, click the Diagnostic Codes button to show trouble codes available from the bike’s ECU as shown in Figure 5. Note: To display diagnostic codes, the DJ-DLM must be communicating with the bike’s ECU. Figure 5: DJ-DLM Diagnostic Codes SAVING AND VIEWING DIAGNOSTIC CODES AS A TEXT FILE 1 2 3 4 Click the Save button to save the trouble code information to a text file.
DATA LINK MODULE - HD DELPHI ECM DJ-DLM Set Up CLEARING ECU TROUBLE CODES 1 2 Click the Clear Codes button to clear the trouble codes. Click Yes at the prompt shown in Figure 6. Figure 6: The Clear Codes Prompt When you have successfully cleared the trouble codes, you will see “Diagnostic Trouble Codes Cleared Successfully” displayed at the top of the Diagnostic Codes screen as shown in Figure 7. 3 Click Close to exit the Diagnostic Codes screen.
DATA LINK MODULE - HD DELPHI ECM DJ-DLM Set Up SELECTING DJ-DLM DATA CHANNELS TO USE WITH WINPEP From within the Dynojet Data Link Module - HD Delphi ECM dialog box, click to show a check box to the left of the data channels to log. These will be added to the list of channels graphed and stored using WinPEP.
DATA LINK MODULE - HD DELPHI ECM Using the DJ-DLM with WinPEP 7 USING THE DJ-DLM WITH WINPEP 7 ................................... Features within WinPEP 7 may now use data channels available from the DJ-DLM. CONFIGURING THE MAKERUN SCREEN The gauges displayed on the MakeRun screen are completely configurable. Editing a gauge allows live data from the DJ-DLM to be displayed on the MakeRun screen. Any data from the DJ-DLM will always be recorded when you sample a run.
