influence of single bad data points, or storing one data point at each predetermined
measurement interval. The results of a cast using a number of averaged velocities for
instance would be a somewhat "smoother" profile, which reacts less rapidly to
spurious changes as the number of averaged data points is increased. The default
value for depth is 4 (four depths are averaged to arrive at the measurement depth) and
velocity is 1 (the most recent velocity at the measurement depth is stored).
Time, Date: The unit's internal clock / calendar keeps track of the current time and date for
record keeping purposes. During a velocity cast, both the time and date of each
measurement is stored in the system's memory. Some formats require time and date in
the header information, while others require a time and date to be associated with
each data point. Since this information is always available in the Digibar, uploading
velocity profiles in several different formats is possible.
Use default setup: This parameter provides an easy way to return the unit to the standard
factory set parameter values. Pressing the ENTER key with Use default setup
displayed results in the warning message "Press enter to reset params to factory
defaults, any other key to cancel".
Simulator: The system's internal simulator provides a handy method of both displaying the
operation of the system and of testing its interfacing capabilities. Once selected, the
unit goes through the normal steps required for a velocity cast, however, no probe
need be connected in order to complete the simulated cast.
Probe Constants: This parameter is intended for use in troubleshooting a suspect
velocity probe only. Probe constants are associated with the calibration of the
velocimeter transducer and should be adjusted only under the direct supervision of an
Odom engineer.
Once the operator is satisfied that the parameters of the cast are properly configured, then press
Esc to return to the Main Menu.
