SUBJECT: CHIPPER BLADE
REPLACEMENT
FITS MODELS: ALL CHIPPER/
SHREDDERS, 4" AND 5" CHIPPERS
Before inspecting or servicing any part of this machine,
shut off power source, remove key, disconnect the
battery cables and make sure all moving parts have
come to a complete stop.
WARNING
WARNING
The chipping blades and shredding knives are sharp!!
Use care when working on the machine to avoid injury.
WARNING
This chipper blade kit contains various sizes of attaching
bolts. Be sure to match the correct bolt with the model
being serviced.
The Chipper Blade Kit contains new parts for replacing
worn or damaged blades. Follow the steps below to
replace the chipping blades.
Remove the discharge screen to access the chipper 1.
blades. For 5" units, remove the access door as well.
Remove the two bolts holding the blade to the rotor. 2.
Inspect the blade for damage (see next section). If the 3.
blade is still in good condition, it can be resharpened.
Otherwise, it must be replaced by a new blade.
Install the replacement chipping blades.4.
Repeat for all blades.5.
Install all safety screens and guards and resume chipping. 6.

SHARPENING THE BLADES
The blades can be ground on a bench grinder or by a
professional.
Never sharpen or grind the mounting surfaces of the 1.
blades. This will cause the edge to roll and the blade will
be damaged, resulting in poor chipping performance.
Regrind the angled edge of the chipping blades to 45 2.
degrees. Make sure some type of xture is used to
correctly hold the blade at the proper angle.
Be careful when grinding so that the blade does not 3.
become overheated and change color. This will remove
the heat-treated properties.
Use short grinding times and cool with water or some 4.
type of liquid coolant.
Remove an equal amount off each blade to maintain 5.
rotor balance.
Small imperfections such as nicks and burrs on the 6.
at side of the blade will not affect the chipping perfor-
mance of the machine. However, if there are cracks,
broken corners or nicks greater than 1/8" (see below),
the blade must be replaced.
For blades that have been repeatedly sharpened, 7.
ensure that the sharpened surface extends past the
chipping slot opening. If it does not extend past the
opening (see below), the blades should be replaced.
When the first edge dulls, inspect the blade to ensure
the second edge is in good condition. If so, flip the blade
and torque to 25 Ft-lb to use the second sharp edge.
After both edges are dull, sharpen the chipper blades.
