EchoStar User Interface PREFACE Preface INTRODUCTION The EchoStar User Interface is a family of user interfaces which are dedicated for a specific range of satellite receivers. Every satellite receiver is equipped with different options. Some options are related to the EchoStar User Interface, others are related to physical options as Common Interface slots, Embedded reader, display or not, etc. Please note that this user manual contains the information for the most comprehensive model.

EchoStar User Interface 1. INITIAL INSTALLATION Initial Installation Section 1 INTRODUCTION English The satellite receiver is pre-programmed with the FTA channels for ASTRA1 and HOTBIRD as know during the manufacturing of the receiver. Note that it is possible to update the channel lists easily, for a detailed instruction, please refer to installation update. The preprogrammed channels are only for use in a single fixed dish installation with a so called universal LNB.
Section 1 English Initial Installation User Manual 3.1. SINGLE FIXED DISH INSTALLATION 1 1. Connect the receiver to the mains wall outlet. 2. On the rear panel, set the ON/OFF switch to ON. 3. Note that the receiver initializes. 4. Wait for the initial startup to complete. 5. If your dish installation is aimed at ASTRA1, live video appears. 6. If your dish installation is aimed at another satellite, a No signal message appears. 7. Press the OK key. 8. Press the red key to choose Select SAT. 9.

FAMILIARIZATION Section 2 THE ECHOSTAR USER INTERFACE English 2 The software of the receiver contains the EchoStar User Interface with on-screen help, which gives you easy control over the features of the receiver. The receiver is pre-programmed with for different satellites. If your satellite is not listed, then the receiver can use the internal database of pre-programmed satellites and transponders which is used for a quick installation.
Familiarization Section 2 2. EchoStar User Interface THE MAIN MENU STRUCTURE The main menu has a tree structure where each sub-menu has one or more option pages. Each sub-menu allows you to customize the settings to match your installation. Note that the menu contains dynamic pages which means that options are, or are not available depending on the selections you make.

Note that the Installation lock comes on automatically after you have set a channel lock. To lock the receiver completely for unauthorized users. If you select On, you only can gain access with the PIN-code after you have set the receiver to standby.

If you select Yes and the software version is the same as the current software, you are asked if you want to continue. If you select No, the download starts automatically and the software version is written to the receiver memory where it deletes the current installed version. ■ Start Starts the Software upgrade procedure.

EchoStar User Interface THE EPG MENU STRUCTURE English 2 Green Red The key gives access to the EPG menu, that helps you to control the timers and to view the information in the Electronic Program Guide (EPG). NOTE Most digital channels broadcast program data as an EPG. Digital channels that broadcast EPG offer you program information in advance for a certain period of time. The EPG information is not always available.

Familiarization Section 2 6. EchoStar User Interface THE POP-UP MENUS English 2 Some pop-up messages are used to show that the receiver is busy with a task. Other pop-up messages require interaction with the user, you have to confirm or deny an earlier given command to complete the task. There are several special pop-up menus that give quick access to: ■ The NOTE Digital channels that broadcast in different languages offer you the possibility to choose another language.

Some of the keys on the RCU give direct access to functions. Important keys are identified as colored keys, MENU, OK, EPG and EXIT. Other keys are multi-functional which means that their function can change with the selections you make. NOTE Unless otherwise specified; this note explains the navigation through the menus and functions.

First you learn how to add a group of channels to your favorite list followed by how to delete a group of channels, then you learn how to rename a favorite list to something meaningful to you. Section 3 8. Operation User Manual HOW TO SET AND LOOK UP THE TIMERS CAUTION English The timer does not start or program your video recorder (VCR). You also have to set the timer of your VCR to the same time as on the timer. Please refer to the user guide of your VCR how to make a recording from a satellite receiver. On many VCRs you have to select the so called external channel (E1). 3 NOTE You can not set a timer in the past.

Operation Section 3 HOW TO RESET THE RECEIVER NOTE There are different procedures for a reset of the receiver. ■ Delete channels - to delete all channels from the channel and favorite lists. ■ Factory reset - to return to the factory defaults and pre-programmed channel lists. ■ Full reset - to delete all settings and start with the Guided setup. Only the procedure for a Full reset followed by the Guided setup is given.

Nothing appears on the receiver front panel. ■ Main power cable is damaged or not connected. ■ Check the main power cord and insert it in the (wall socket). ■ The On/Off switch on the rear panel is set to Off. ■ Set the On/Off switch in the On position.
