The 2007.5 and newer light-du-
ty diesel pickups are equipped
with OEM Exhaust Gas Tem-
perature ( EGT) sensors, all of
which can be monitored with
the CS and CTS Devices.
Before a customer uses the
vehicle’s OEM sensors for read-
ing exhaust gas temperature, it’s
extremely important that he/she
become educated about EGT
sensor placement, and under-
stand what exactly to look for
when using an EGT sensor on a
diesel-powered vehicle. (NOTE:
Additional detailed installation
instructions are found in supple-
mental manuals)
Edge Products was the rst
company to integrate gauge
screens with their power mod-
ules giving customers the ability
to monitor EGTs and other
vehicle parameters in real-time.
Since the introduction of the
Attitude monitor Edge Products
has always recommended that
the EGT probe be placed in the
exhaust manifold, in a pre-turbo
location simply because the
manifold location gives the best
representation of combustion
chamber temperatures. Other
locations downstream in the ex-
haust system do not accurately
represent combustion chamber
temperatures.
The 2008 and newer Ford
Powerstroke 6.4L is factory-
equipped with an EGT sensor
in the pipe prior to the high
pressure turbo. This EGT sen-
sor accurately represents EGT
temperatures in the combustion
chamber.
The 2007.5+ GM Duramax
and Dodge Ram 6.7 Cum-
mins do not have EGT sen-
sors placed pre-turbo where
the optimum readings can be
achieved. When items such as
turbos, catalysts, NOX lters,
and particulate traps are intro-
duced, temperatures can vary in
large margins due to the ther-
mal energy stored/transferred
by these devices. This creates
an environment that doesn’t
represent combustion-chamber
temperatures as effectively as a
manifold/ pre-turbo placed sen-
sor does.
Edge Products recommends
using a pre-turbo EGT sensor
if you use the CS/CTS for any
kind of competition, or heavy
hauling. If your vehicle is not
equipped with a pre-turbo EGT
