Interface Configuration (Ethernet, Port Channel)
Command Usage
1000BASE-T does not support forced mode. Auto-negotiation should always be
used to establish a connection over any 1000BASE-T port or trunk.
The 10GBASE-SFP+ transceivers do not support auto-negotiation. Forced mode
should always be used to establish a connection over any 10GBASE-SFP port or
trunk.
When auto-negotiation is enabled,

the switch will negotiate the best settings
for a link based on the capabilities command. When auto-negotiation is
disabled, you must manually specify the link attributes with the speed-duplex
and flowcontrol commands.
A connection can only be enabled on a port in which a recognized transceiver
is inserted. Refer to the Quick Start Guide for a list of compliant transceivers.
Example
The following example configures port 10 to use auto-negotiation.
Console(config)#interface ethernet 1/10
Console(config-if)#negotiation
