The EGP Registers for Deskbook Checks – 5 registers
The Secretary Register for Deskbook Checks is designed to work with the Secretary Deskbook Checks
(Item 56200) as well as the Newport Deskbook Checks (Item 56400) systems. With each purchase you as
a customer receive 5 separate register books. The final back page of each register slides downward into
a horizontal slit in the binder used to house the register and checks. The horizontal slit for the registers
is on the left side of the cover, and the vertical slit for the checks is on the right side of the cover. There
are two binder products to use with the Secretary Registers – Item 56201 (Secretary and Newport
Deskbook Check Cover) and Item 1437 (Secretary and Newport Deskbook Check Zippered Portfolio).
When you open the top flap of the register there is a calendar located on the inside back of the cover
sheet. Also located on that sheet is a schedule to record automatic payment reminders. The very back of
the register has instruction on how to use the entire register, as well as a box to record the name of the
financial institution or bank associated with the register, the beginning and ending numbers of check
sequences recorded within the register, and also the start and end date of the recordings within the
register.
The register is versatile. The register was developed based on results of market research studies for the
specific needs of those who use a manual register. One method of recording allows you to use a single-
line method of recording – where you make a transaction recording on each line, and strike balances as
needed. This is preferred for a quick and compact recording method. Another method is to use a two-
line approach meant to meet the need for customers who need to itemize each entry, and carry a
running balance for each entry. Using the two-line approach, you use the pay to on the first line, and the
payment on the second line.
The reverse side of each page within the register allows for the detailed listing of tax deductible
expenditures. It is an easy, quick reference guide for reconciliation at tax time of your records. Also on
the reverse side of each page are twenty-one rows for deposit, with columns for DATE, SOURCE OF
ITEM, NATURE OF ITEM, AMOUNT OF ITEM, and TOTAL AMOUNT OF DEPOSIT.
Within each register are twenty-seven pages. Each page allows for 30 entries using a single line entry
system, or 15 entries using a two-line entry system. The register has multiple columns for ease of use
and reference. The columns are, from left to right, NUMBER, DATE, DESCRIPTION OF TRANSACTION,
PAYMENT/DEBIT, CHECKBOX FOR CLEARED, FEE, DEPOSIT/CREDIT, and BALANCE.
