Constant Tempo Mixdown Mode
NOTE: The abbreviated term CT Mixdown
will hereafter be used when appropriate to
refer to the more bulky term Constant
Tempo Mixdown.
During normal mixdown, the Mixdown track
records at the same tempo to which the 6
mono tracks play back. All tracks are locked in
at the same speed at all times, just like on a
multitrack tape recorder. This speed is set by
the TEMPO slider, the TAP button, or an
external MIDI Clock. You can change the speed
or tempo (BPM) of the 95000 while recording a
normal Mixdown track, though when you play it
back you will not hear any changes in pitch.
CT Mixdown mode locks the Mixdown track to
the tempo or speed at which you recorded the
initial loop. You can, however, change the
speed of the 6 recorded tracks with the TEMPO
slider to produce a Mixdown track with subtle
effects like flanging, or more drastic effects
like pitch bending.
When you enter CT Mixdown mode, the TEMPO
slider becomes a tempo-change percentage
control that ranges from -1 octave to +1
octave, with no change when the slider is set to
the middle. The middle tempo always consists
of the original tempo at which the loop was
recorded. If you push the TEMPO slider to the
top, the 6 recorded tracks will double their
tempo. Push TEMPO down to the bottom, and
the tempo of the 6 recorded tracks will be cut
in half. When set to the center, the TAP LED
lights solid to indicate that there is no change
in tempo. At all other settings, the TAP LED
blinks rapidly.
The TAP button is deactivated in CT
Mixdown mode.
If you press the REVERSE button during CT
Mixdown, the 6 recorded tracks will play
backwards while the Mixdown track records
going forward. This enables you to reverse
a track (on the Mixdown track) after you
had recorded it forwards.
Using Constant Tempo Mixdown Mode
While the 95000 is idle, press the MIXDOWN
button until the MIXDOWN LED blinks rapidly.
The 95000 must be idle to enter or exit CT
Mixdown mode.
At this point, you can press either the RECORD
or PLAY footswitches. Pressing RECORD puts
you directly into CT Mixdown mode. Press PLAY
to rehearse the mixdown.
When rehearsing the CT Mixdown, press the RECORD
button at any time to overdub onto the
Mixdown track.
Keep in mind that if you already have audio on
the Mixdown track, you will probably want to
set the Mixdown track’s DUB level to 10 so that
you do not lose the original audio on the
Mixdown track.
While performing a CT Mixdown, move the
TEMPO slider in either direction to hear the
effects of the off-speed tracks.
In some cases of drastic TEMPO slider use,
the tracks you are mixing will go out of
sync with respect to their original timing.
To stop recording the CT Mixdown, press the
RECORD footswitch to enter playback mode or
press the PLAY footswitch to stop the 95000.
To enter or exit CT Mixdown mode, the 95000
must be idle. Press the MIXDOWN button until
its LED shuts off. You may also exit CT Mixdown
mode by pressing the Track footswitch.
Refer to After the Mixdown on the previous
page for more options/ideas on what to do next.
