A.D.A. Compliance Specifications
Ranges
Specified models feature the following qualities:
•
Maximum high forward reach for controls
and operating mechanisms of 48".
•
Maximum low forward reach of 15".
•
Controls and operating mechanisms that are
operable with one hand and do not require tight
grasping, pinching, or twisting of the wrist with
a force to activate greater than 5 lbs.
•
Front controls that do not require reaching
across burners.
Cooktops
Specified models feature the following qualities:
•
Maximum high forward reach for controls
and operating mechanisms of 48".
•
Maximum low forward reach of 15".
•
Controls and operating mechanisms that are
operable with one hand and do not require tight
grasping, pinching, or twisting of the wrist with
a force to activate greater than 5 lbs.
•
Insulation or other protection on the exposed
undersurfaces to prevent burns, abrasions,
or electrical shock.
•
Front controls that do not require reaching
across burners.
Wall Ovens
Specified models feature the following qualities:
•
Maximum high forward reach for controls
and operating mechanisms of 48".
•
Controls and operating mechanisms that are
operable with one hand and do not require tight
grasping, pinching, or twisting of the wrist.
•
Controls on front panels that may be activated
by a force of no more than 5 lbs.
Warmer Drawers
Specified models feature the following qualities:
•
Maximum high forward reach for controls
and operating mechanisms of 48".
•
Controls and operating mechanisms that are
operable with one hand and do not require tight
grasping, pinching, or twisting of the wrist.
•
Controls on front panels that may be activated
by a force of no more than 5 lbs.
Refrigeration
Specified models feature the following qualities:
•
Maximum high forward reach for controls
and operating mechanisms of 48".
•
Maximum low forward reach of 15".
•
Controls and operating mechanisms that are
operable with one hand and do not require tight
grasping, pinching, or twisting of the wrist.
•
Controls that may be activated by a force of
no more than 5 lbs.
•
Refrigeration that has at least 50% of the freezer
space below 54" from the floor and 100% of the
fresh food space below 54" from the floor.
•
Freezers with less than 100% storage volume
between 15" to 48" are self-defrosting type.
Dishwashers
Specified models feature the following qualities:
•
Maximum high forward reach for controls
and operating mechanisms of 48".
•
Maximum low forward reach of 15".
•
Controls and operating mechanisms that are
operable with one hand and do not require tight
grasping, pinching, or twisting of the wrist.
•
Controls that may be activated by a force of
no more than 5 lbs.
•
All rack space accessible from the front of the
machine for loading and unloading dishes.
